Viral load and cerulo

by see me, Oct 03, 2006 12:00AM
Hello and God be with you all.  Just got back HCV RNA 12,862,000
this is measured in (IU) per ml.  Is this the viral load that you all talk about.  Is this high?  Also, what is a test called CERULO and what does it measure?  Any feedback on this would be appreciated.  Thank you.

Here is an explaination as to why the cerulo test is performed. Hope it helps.

To answer your question, yes, that is the viral load we were talking about and yes, it would be considered a "high" viral load at over 12 million. try not to let that scare you too much, the viral load fluctuates. You could do another test for it and get a different reading, higher or lower.
The importance of the measurement is to be able to measure if the treatment is working, it is NOT a measure of your level of liver damage. You can have a low viral load and a lot of damage ( in my case this was true) or a high viral load and little or no liver damage. You will need a biopsy and some blood work done to determine the liver damage level.
