Vision Impaired and Treatment

Hello everyone :)

I have been told that you get a vision test prior to treatment, does this mean if you wear glasses you are not considered a candidate for treatment?

Thanks

Hi v,

The main reason the vision test is important is that a small number of people who go through tx show some signs of retinal degeneration, some even have macular degeneration.  This can be serious.  What should be included in the test is a retina exam.  If you experience any vision changes, this can be used as a baseline to make sure you are not experiencing any of these problems.

Best to you,
Steve

I had an eye exam before tx along with a comlpete physical and think it is a very good idea. I did have eye problems from tx but called the optomologist I was working with and he took care of things while I was doing tx. I had blurred vision, some was from being in my 40's and some was from tx. It is way to easy to blame everything on tx when in fact some things are normal like losing vision in your 40's and 50's. I also had riba rash under my eye lid and this was a problem throughout tx. I actuallu rubbed my eye one morning and it bled which scared me. My eye doc said it was ok and gave me antibiotis drops which worked fine. It came back a few times but the drops always worked. Glasses have nothing to do with it but I would get a test and a physical. LL

It is indeed a baseline exam, just like the bloodwork prior to tx.  I had a floater, cotton wool spot, whatever you want to call it in my left eye before tx.  At my next eye exam (I had 2 mos left of tx) the doc found "something different" and wanted me to see a retinal specialist.  It was 2 more floaters due to an infarct from the interferon.  They do not bother me too much, my vision worsened in the left eye, but improved in the right.  Good luck to you.

I believe it is very important to get in touch with a good eye doctor and have your eyes check before treatment= TX. Then have the eye Dr follow you through TX.There can be many complications from the interferon.. Having to wear glasses will not make you ineligible for TX.
Interferon can cause many eye problems.I suffered from dry eyes and vision loss after my first round of treatment. My vision went from very good to needing glasses. My vision continued to get much worse over the next 1 1/2 years requiring Rx's for drastic changes in my vision ever time I saw the eye Dr, which was about every six months. I just finish my third round of TX and this time I suffered damage from dry eye condition. Whether this is permanent or not time will tell.

Here is a link to a great web site that I believe you will benefit from reading..

                  GOD Bless.

Ina,

I still suffer from dry eye's but not nearly as bad as when I was on TX...I would like to suggest using a preservative free eye drop. They are more expensive and you need to use alot, but the worked fairly good for me..Use the eye lubricant at night when you go to sleep..

I ope this brings you some relief.
