WIGS - They ARE the ANSWER!!!

by NYgirl, Nov 06, 2006 12:00AM
Let me tell ya - I thought it would feel SO stupid to come to work today wearing a wig.  After losing 80% of my hair I really thought it was obvious to everyone here!

I bought two nice long pretty wigs on ebay to test out whether I could do it or not.

Well - so far today I've been complimented twice on MY NEW HAIR COLOR!

hahahaha!

I feel SO MUCH better about my self image. I was so tired of putting on my makeup and matching jewelry and bag and shoes and outfit and trying to HARD to look/feel good but I just couldn't because I had such incredibly short thin hair (after a lifetime of long full hair).

I would advise any of you gals who suffer through the hair loss - don't wait as long as I did.  REALLY.

At first I was waiting for people to point and laugh and go A WIG A WIG! But of course nobody did and now I feel like a woman again - and that my friends feels GREAT.

I'll have to keep that in mind as I am just now starting to really lose my hair.  I really noticed it this am as I combed my damp hair and was getting 8 and 10 hairs with every stroke...  maybe I should start styling it with my fingers instead. hmmmm

Hi Debby

That's great about the wig, I bought one off ebay and it looked completely insane, like I had candyfloss hair!!! maybe I should have investigated the choices a bit more, could you let me know the sellers name you got yours from? If you can I am at Msmnypenny at hotmail dot com

My hair is looking so sad now, although it is easing up a bit, I have a halo of baby new hair, which makes it impossible to get away with any kind of style, but my kids think it is cute!!!!!

Hope your tx is going well, what week are you now, and how is the thyroid. I am on week 40 now, and as I didn't clear until around 26 I am extending, thyroid went from hyper to hypo on meds, but seems to be normalising now I have been taken off the carbimazole.

All the best to everyone

xx

Way to go, Deb.  I am glad you finally did it.  I guess the insurance wouldn't pick up the cost? YOu are right - self image is really important.

I think I am finally adjusting to thin straight hair with no body.  Now I think it is going to be odd when I get my origianl texture back (if I do) LOL!

I am also going to keep that my mind, I am getting real thin in the hair department and I am only at week 15, can't belive I wrote only because it has not been easy, but reading so many people's post about being at week 34 and you going to 72, you are all an inspiration. Pam

Good for you Deb.  I haven't see you so excited since you ditched the old boss.  Bet he has some comments for you.

by NYgirl, Nov 06, 2006 12:00AM
I tell you - this was the BEST move I could have made I just feel like the old me a bit!

I haven't been this excited since I ditched the old jerk boss - 7 months ago already! ;)

People keep saying to me "wow you got your hair colored" hahaha.  I guess in their minds they remember me looking like I used to or something.

And here I was waiting for laughter (you know how beaten up we are on treatment ego wise) and everyone has made me feel SO GOOD!

I would advise anyone having this thinning hair problem to go for it!  Buy a couple on ebay to figure out what works the best for you!

You can get a wig that would be $200 for $29.99 there (that is what I did). I paid on a Tuesday and the wigs were at my house on Friday. I was SHOCKED.

I am SO HAPPY.  I just feel GREAT!

Don't put off doing it if your hair is really thining. I dont know why I waited - it makes all the difference in the world!

My New Boss (the great one) just called me "Hotsy Totsy"...he made me feel so GOOD! (Amazing how one boss would tell me I looked like **** and another one builds me UP huh)

GOOD FOR YOU!!  I'll bet you look great.  Just know that it DOES come back.  It is a slow process.  I take my reading glasses every morning and examine my scalp to see all the new baby hairs coming in!  LOL.  How important our hair is to not only how we look but how we feel.

How are you doing? How's post tx life going?

Thanks for asking after me down on another thread. I'm doing ok, still on this stuff so you know the drill.

I know you can get it from itunes, napster, those type of places. I thought I had it somewhere to send to you but I can't find it in the fog.
Tom lived on the outskirts of my town in Northern CA. very nice man. Humble, kind, great sense of humor. About as down to earth as a person can be.

Here is another place that has that song/soundtrack. Not sure if that is what you are after.

Take care, hope you are feeling better every day.

Good for you, glad it worked for you. Can I ask how long you were on treatment when you really started to notice the hair loss?

I'm glad you have the wigs!  I was worried too that everybody will notice, but I only had compliments...  But now when my hair started sort of growing and I stopped wearing the wig, people at work ask me "why? why? I cut my hair"  I had to explain, because I felt very dishonest (stupid me!).

Another privilege:  you don't have to style your hair!

I loved your post and I'll bet you're "stylin" girl!  I'm grinning from ear to ear.

I didn't know you lose your hair. I havn't started my interfuron yet but I will be soon. Is that what causes your hair to thin, break or fall out? I really scared about treatment. I have heard so many things about it and none of them are good. I was diagnosed when I was 23 that was a year ago and I am still waiting for medicaid to kick in so I am covered and can start treatment. Can anyone give me some information on ho w you feel and what you go through during treatment? Please. I wam also going to post my own forum in case no one sees this one. I am new to this site. So I don't exactly know what to do or where to start. I am glad you have found a way to be happy. I have long thick hair and I am really scared to lose it.
