Water and Electrolytes

How often should one replace the electrolytes that are washed out of the body  by all the water you drink during the weekly treatments?
I read an article that electroytes are washed out of the body at faster rate when large quantities of water are consumed.
My husband will start his second shot tonight.
He has been drinking over a gal.of water in a days time for the last three weeks, yesterday had a bad time with nausea.
In this time he has not been drinking any type of power drink at all.
Has any one had luck adding sports drinks to their fuid intake and how often should they be added?

You could simply add one or two servings of a power drink (gatorade or simular) and this should easily keep things in balance.  You would be suprised how easily the body maintains the right concentration.

Clear fruit juices, apple and white grape for example will also help keep your levels right on.

Gatorade does it for me

Gatorade is good for you but I get tired of it, just like I do the water.

Gatorade definitely helps.  He may need it watered down, though.  I did.  The consistency was too thick for me.

MJP3,
I am post treatment 1 year (non responsive) I still drink my gallon a day. A lady friend of mine told me about a product and I am not sure of the name but your pharm. would know. It is something like pedeatric electolyte. It is about $3.00 a guart and I drink it when I start to feel dehydrated and it works great. Please ask your doc first though.
Good luck

How long were you off tx before you relapsed?  Are you back on tx?  Same tx?  What genotype are you?  If I'm asking too many questions, just say so. *hopiangel*

No problem - geno 1b, did not relapse until after tx was done.  Not doing anything for a while.  Will see gastro around the first of the year.

I finished tx in December 02.  Showed undetected all the way through tx, but relapsed 2 months post tx.

I know that drinking a lot of water is hard especially when your not thirsty but it is important.  Myself I would start feeling terrible if I didn't drink at least 7 or 8 glasses (8 0zs.) of water a day.  Plus water is pretty inexpensive.  My wife would replace my 16 oz. bottles of water with more water from our filtered picture. So each day I would have cold water.  I can't drink room temperture water. What ever he decides, I hope it goes easy and quick for him.

You were one of the people that gave me encouragement when I was on tx and I want to thank you.   Bless you, Kim, and hang in there. My area doesn't have much to offer for heppers. It's good to have this place to go for support.  Take care and know you are being thought about.  *hopiangel*

Here is a site that gives the recipe for Oral Rehydration Therapy (ORT).
http://www.fpnotebook.com/PED79.htm
ORT is the universal electrolyte that is saving the lives of many people who are DEHYDRATED (i.e. children w/diarrhea, etc.).
Drinks that give these chemicals would also restore electrolytes to us during tx; look at the Gatorade ingredients.  Note that if you are drinking juices and eating from all food groups (i.e. a good variety), you usually get these.
