Water intake

Water intake

Hi everyone

I have 4 more weeks of treatment to go (3 more shots) and I am finding it harder to keep my water intake up.  Drinking water tends to make me feel nauseous.
I was wondering if this was a common occurance and how much is enough water to drink whilst on treatment.

I would say that you should listen to your body. If you cannot keep up with drinking much water, eat more fresh vegetables and fruit. They have a lot of water in them. Since everyone is different and equally the climate one lives in and how much one sweats etc, one cannot really say how much one should drink. I would say that the utter minimum should probably be 1 liter per day. I needed about 4 - 5 liters per day, but at the end of treatment I could do with less than that. But I was craving for water, and could only drink water. So that's a different story altogether.

Congrats on almost finishing!

drink as much as your body askes for. mix in some gatorade & juices.

Whatever you do don't listen to this internet myth about "half your body weight in oz's of water". that is hogwash.

The Gastro I see has a nurse, who only works with HCV patients. Teaches you how to inj yourself, goes over the side effects ect. She told me the 1/2 oz to lb of bodyweight was what is recommended. But,if the water is making you sick, you might try some gatorade, the original (green) sort of settles an upset stomach. Im wondering why you went thru almost all the treatment and then with only 3 weeks left, this starts. Im on week 30 and one thing I've found out is "be ready for anything." Stuff that never bothered you before will pop up out of nowhere. Did you talk with your doc? If I started to get nauseated, I'd cut back on the liquids. If you start getting dehydrated, then I'd see my doc. good luck

Drink when you are thirsty.  Don't force it.  You could also get water by eating frozen popsicles all day.  You can buy the freezing forms at a  kitchen supply store or just use and ice tray filled with juice.

For the most part water often helps people with nausea.  In general it is often recommended that people up their uptake for a variety of reasons.

There may be more reasons but it may ease some of the work on kidneys in processing the riba.  If one is also taking other drugs with SOC such as anti-depressants or  painkillers etc, a little extra water is good.

TX tends to dry out skin and upping the H2O can help with skin issues.

Some people have issues with teeth and gums.  It could be that dry mouth contributes to those issues.  Having a little water around not only to drink but to just keep the mouth wet may be good there too.

Ginger is often recommended for nausea, or ginger ale.  Have you tried that?  Just try to surf on the edge of comfort; you don't have far to go now.

After dosing I hope you'll spring back to normal and this will no longer be an issue.

best,
Willy

I drink a lot of water but I have days like you.  I get some nausea in the morning after I drink my first glass of water.  I drink bottle of powerade every day and alternate with popciscles.

oh, I have 5 wks left (4 shots)!  See you at the finish line.

I also suffer from dehydration and was informed by all my doctor to drink 1/2 my body weight in ozs.  I have learned so much about the human body from all the drugs I must take and it scares me to realize all my life I wasn't living healthy, and what dehydration can do to your other organs.  It is not necessary to consume just water, but booze is totally out of the question.  I drink minimum 56 oz daily, and keep tract of each oz I take in, but only half is water.  The rest is milk, ice tea, juice, or flavored water.  I do not drink soda since my stomach has become so sensitive.

And I do become nauseated if I drink too much or down the liquid too quickly.

Good luck, take one day at a time

Thanks everyone.  I have got some good advice and tips from these posts.
At the start of treatment I was drinking lots of water and it has probally halved to what it was at the start.   I might just take more frequent smaller amounts of water.

My water intake on tx has fluctuated much like yours. At first, I craved it....couldn't get enough. Now at week 36, my body seems to need less than it did and I get nauseous if I force it. So about half my initial intake and I feel better.

Best wishes on your way to the finish line!

Very strange how that happens to us "justme53".  I am excatly the same as you.  I too craved the fluids at the start also but now, like you did, seem to need less.  I will persist with it though.
take care
