Week 4 Blood Test Question Biliruban

Just received week 4 test results.  Everything is good except Bilituban and GGT. Direct Biliruban is 0.4 mg/dL. Total Biliruban is 1.7 mg/dL.  Also GGT is high at 66 U/L.  Dr. said a rise in Biliruban is normal with Ribavirin.  Can anyone help explain?

Your direct bilirubin is elevated by only .1 mg/dl. The direct or conjugated bilirubin is associated with liver function. The normal range is .00 - 0.3 mg/dl so your elevated total bilirubin is not alarming.
Your indirect/unconjugated bilirubin accounts for most of the elevation seen in your Total Bilirubin (direct + indirect bilirubin = total bilirubin). That results from the ribavirin attacking your red blood cells. When red blood cells are damaged they release heme which is then turned into unconjugated bilirubin in the spleen and then binds to albumin and winds up in the liver.
This is the nature of hemolytic anemia which is caused by ribavirin - increased red blood cell destruction releases hemoglobin which is broken down into heme and turned  into unconjugated bilirubin which, in your case, plays the primary role in the elevation seen in your Total Bilirubin.

Am in the Lambda study so they will not reviel PCR until week 12.  I have thought about having an outside test done as I am very curious.

did you have a PCR done to see if you cleared the virus? The 4 week PCR is perhaps the most important test you will have during TX. This test can help make many TX decisions. If you didn't have it done then I would get one right away, get the blood drawn the day of your shot, BEFORE the shot.
Best of luck
