Weight FX on Pegasys TX???

Weight FX on Pegasys TX???

Any Big Mamas or Papas Acheive SVR?? I read somewhere where the optimal weight for anyone to acheive SVR was 165lbs. I haven't been that thin since 78! I also read where doc are weight dosing Peg and Riba. There's no way I'll be 165 b4 tx. Your thoughts??

Pegysus is the med that states 165lbs to be optimal weight to achieve SVR.. Peg 2b is weight based.
If you are over 200lbs and genotype 1, plan on taking 1200mg of riba along with the peg.

pegasys is not weight based, but pegintron is. there are some studies that are increasing the pegasys doses with good results, though.
If you do not clear by wk 12, insist on tx extension. The consensus is to go 36 to 40 wks beyond clearance. If you can tolerate the tx, do 18 months anyway, to reverse any damage you might have and increase the chances for SVR.
I hope someone comes along that is full size and SVR, to give you more hope.

I agree that you should do tx for 48 weeks from clearing with a minimal of 72 weeks. This is just my personal opinion from my own experience. I will mention I am not overweight. I chose to do that myself for other reasons, not clearing at 3 months, but I do think that any little reason to change your chances of SVR should make a person do extended full dose tx. I think the weight issue is certaily enough to extend. The less than 50% chance was just to low for me. Again just my thoughts on this. LL

hi and welcome to the forum!

make sure you're on the weight based interferon..."pegintron" and also i believe it is 1400mgs of ribaviron for your weight though your dr may balk at this high of a dose but this is better than having to go on for longer than 72 weeks...

i was 265lb at start of tx...my dr would only start me at 1200 mgs

(Relatively) hot off the press:

Area-under-the-curve for Peginterferon Alfa-2a (Pegasys) and Peginterferon Alfa-2b (PegIntron) Is Not Related to Body Weight in Treatment-naive Patients with Chronic Hepatitis C

hi calif, bronx, interesting article calif...good news if it's true. i'm a little leary cause it only tested 22 people , 12 on pegasys and 12 on pegintron, and i don't know how much they weighed either. but here is another article on dosing for "ribaviron"...this one is speaking of african americans but, it makes sence that it would apply even more so to less challanged groups...the above article is just talking about the interferon i think...this one is about the ribaviron...

you'll get there bronx...try not to worry too much, i know easier said than done...i sure pray you will have no damage at all and no fatty liver either...as far as treatment goes i would make sure you are on at least 1200mgs of ribaviron and 1400mgs is better for your wieght if your dr will allow it especially in the first few months of tx when the high riba is most important...if you start at 1400 and eventually need to go down to 1200 that should still do ya...my best to you bronx i know you will be a strong hepc warrior!
