Weight and Riba

Can anyone tell me the what happens if the ratio of prescribed ribavirin and your weight doesn't jive? I take 1200mg of riba daily and my weight after 33 wks of treatment is down to 130. Does genotype have anything to do with the amount (1a)? Is the doctor trying to beat the beast down with a higher dosage? On a different note, Marathon runners hit the "wall" around 18 miles. I feel like I've hit the wall with this treatment. Things were sailing along and around wk 28, WHAM! Time slowed down to the point that I thought this was my 35th wk tonight. I was P.O'd!!

My weight at the beginning of treatment was 176 and as a 1B was prescribed 1200 mg/day of riba. During treatment I  dropped down to 140 but continued on the same dosage. I also ran out of steam around week 28 -- very common for many at that juncture -- so reduced my riba for a week to 1000 but still felt like sh*t, so figured if I'm gonna feel like sh*t anyway, I mine as well take the higher dosage, since that's what got me to non-detectible. While it seems like tx will never end, one day it actually does. You got to keep remembering that. Hope you feel better.

i was 140 lbs and took 1000 mg / day and it was higher than needed. 1200 seems awful high. if you are getting tx'd out i would suggest talking to dr re lowering to a more realistic level. maybe  a higher dose will increase your svr odds but not if it forces you to quit tx. it is a lot,

Thanks for the info. I see my doc in a couple weeks and I'll bring it up to him. But you're right, just tough it out. I started the fight, might as well finish it. Thanks again.

Well at least your are more than 1/2 way there, if that helps. I know its not easy but soon this cr.p will be over and you will have your life back.

When I started tx I weighed 155 - 160 and was on 1000 mg of rib.  I now weigh 125 and am still on 1000 mg.  I have had to do arenesp (like procrit) since week 20 due to low hgb.  I am now on week 58.
