Weight gain?????

Hey guys!  I hope first of all that this finds all doing OK today.  My question is:  Did anyone gain weight on tx?  Oddly enough as much as I was concerned about losing the weight,  I seemed to have gained up to almost 5lbs.  Curious????  Could that weight be related to thyroid?  If thyroid, then would there be any other symptoms that would manifest itself to make me think," Hmmmm....thyroid?"  Like feeling full after eating and so on and so on.....

In Him,
Rick

I have gained 8 lbs total in 41 weeks. I ate gallons and gallons of ice cream at the beginning and didn't gain a lb. I think all this laying around has something to do with my weight gain. I used to be so much more active.

I don't think the IFN could have destroyed your Thyroid yet.  You've only been on it such a short time. Is your doctor monitoring your TSH level? It is NECESSARY.

Mine didn't go until about week 30 or so.  Other than the anemia - it seems once this happened, that was when all the other problems and sides really affected me.

The sides to the thyroid mirror the sides to treatment. So...it was like having them DOUBLE.

It's not just weight gain. Probably - you are eating more comfort foods?

Make sure the doc keeps an eye on your thyroid levels. That is advice that everybody should follow - almost all doctors seem VERY up on the fact that the IFN can kill your thyroid off.

I haven't experienced not one sx, but like you said to early on to tell.  The only thing that I have noticed, however, was this weight of almost 5lbs.  Just thought it was interesting to note, because I tried to get my weight up a little before starting and couldn't really....and low and behold...bam....5lbs????  153lbs. to almost 158lbs.  thanks,

In Him,
Rick

I'm on 24/48 and have gained 20 lbs although some of that is attributable to steroids I was taking for al allergic reaction.

Wow maybe it's good to gain weight on TX to keep your strength up. I have heard of that before. I did TX a year and lost about 35-40 lbs and became really weak. Gaining weight probably is a good thing and cause. May just help you get through the treatment better.

Didn't you just take your first shot 2 days ago?  Do you always weigh your self on the same scale?  Do you have a practical joker in your home?

Hi Rick. If you haven't gained from trying to gain (by eating more), and if you've been drinking a whole lot more water since starting treatment, some of that 5 lbs could be some fluid retention going on, which is no biggie.  Hang in there.  Glad it's going well so far!

i would guess that it's a little early on to really know if you're going to gain or lose weight. i have been tx for only a week and i have pretty much stayed the same, even though i have not been eating as much. be sure to drinks lots of water. how are the sx if any? hope they are very few or none. good luck!
