What can I do for steatosis

I am having serious memory problems. I have had several tests to rule things out so it seems that it is from my steatosis. I have HCV genotype 3 and I have not been treated. I hear there are new drugs coming out next yr. What can be done about the steatosis specifically? Please advise.

If you are currently obese or even overweight, your doctor will probably encourage you to achieve and maintain proper BMI. I don’t know that else they have up their sleeve for managing steatosis, but I believe this is the first line of defense.

I’ve never heard any discussion that links cognitive impairment or disability with hepatic steatosis; this is new to me. Please note that there are no doctors present here; this is a patient to patient forum only.

I’m not sure that the new protease inhibitors will be effective for HCV GT-3; the preliminary data from the Telaprevir trials was less than enthusiastic:

“Conclusions: TVR demonstrated substantial antiviral activity against HCV G2, while its activity against G3 was limited. These findings support additional investigation of TVR for the treatment of G2 HCV infection. “

Hi Matt-

Steatosis is also known as fatty liver; for some reason, GT-3 patients seem to be predisposed to this.

Did you read the link I provided to the Telaprevir studies? That was my take on it; although there may be other info available out there. I’d like to hear a professional interpretation of this for clarity.

Be well--

Bill
