It's a common term used in the HCV treatment world to describe those moments when you'd like to rip someone's head off but it's actually the interferon that causes most of the problems.

Ribavirin makes you irritable, impatient and on edge.  Interferon can lead to inappropriate outbursts when you're dealing with morons.  Interferon causes depression and irritability and anger which are common symptoms of depression.  Rage itself is a psychiatric manifestation and interferon is the drug with the FDA mandated psychiatric warnings, not the ribavirin.

i recall the warnings on one of the interferon labels.  it said something like "life threatening neuro-psychiatiric effects."   these days i wander around repeating, "it's only the drugs, it's only the drugs,  it's only the drugs."

I agree its mainly the interferon, but at times it can be like road rage on steroids

Agree with Lynda 100% since this is what I experience.  For me the first few months were a bit more challenging with the mood swings, but seem to have leveled off, or I've just gotten better at dealing with it.   A few days after the interferon is when I have the shortest temper, and if I've had a very stressful day, the fuse is short.   And then there's the sappy moments, too.

Call it what you want, but its not just the Riba.   Since your family/spouse may not be able to recognize how you feel, communication is important before you pop your cork.

It's when your swimming laps down at the pool and the person next to you keeps swimming in your lane because he wants you to move over so your arms keep hitting so you stop him and say "I am going to kick you in the f------ head if you don.t move over!  Sortta like road rage but pool rage.

Zoloft worked for me. Like others have said, getting worked up about minutia.  Can't let things go.  

Doc suggested Zoloft at the begining. I said no its cool.  Then the meds stared to soak in between weeks  4-6,  I called them back and said " ah about that Zoloft".

Seemed to dial everything back a bit, definetly helped.

It helped me big time. I was never depressed couldn't wait for tx to end so I could get back to having fun.  My mood was just all over the place. I took 2 months to get totally off at the end without any issues. I thought the mental part of tx was harder than the physical sx.

Lynda607's and flcyclysts' responses were great.  

Before I started triple treatment I was on an AD for other reasons and doing very well for years.  Within 2 weeks on triple treatment I was off the wall and no longer the same person.  Screamed at everyone about nothing.  Just wanted to be by myself so no one would bother me...and this was the new personality of someone with many people in her life.  

My Dr's worked great together and increased dosage of my AD.  My Riba dosage was decreased but as a result of anemia and I will be on Procrit to help that situation.

Not as cranky/crazy and just found out after my 5th week I am undetectable.  It's still going to be a way to go but yelling at people has been worth it!  Much thought and support for you!

Riba rage is the ability to be a complete a-hole around those that love you and support you through this trying time....like screaming at youir mate if they surf with the remote while you are watching some old world war movie on the history channel. Also,  the ability to suffer absolutley no fools anywhere, and it makes you think that you are so smart and that the rest of the world is just so f%$#ed up about everything. At least that's how it affected me...it gets better with time though and the rages come less and less, especially after you finish the Incivek.Then you just basically become and incomplete a-hole.

i had to make some huge life decisions during this time ot tx i am on week 17 now ... i talked to my mom my dad m=a bunch of my friends and my publisher about these decisions and they all said i had good reason ... but i think my tolerance was just down to nothing ..where as before i would put up with **** too much.... i really hope i havent made horrible mistakes but i think i was always too nice before and now i cant do it any more....  thanks incivek for helping me clean house ... cant wait to live the rest of my life with no hep c and no ********

i started zoloft two months before starting tx.....i'm really glad i did....i felt a little off a couple times on tx but not too bad...normally i'm a very happy calm person...i'm not that happy now but still not bad....everyone seems to be different on taking ads...many don't....i started on 50 zoloft then a month later went up to 100...8 weeks into tx went up to 150....billy

Wow, 150 mg of Zoloft and I'd be drooling on myself and all over my keyboard.  Having stated you are very sensitive to all drugs I'm surprised you can tolerate that high of a dose but if it's working that's all that matters.  You realize once you've completed treatment and if you choose to discontinue the Zoloft you'll have detox slowly off it.  Can't stop AD's cold turkey or you could have big problems.
