What should the diet be during tx hepC???

Some people would say I have a little unusual diet – I skip
breakfast and have a late lunch (around 3p.m). Before that
just a little natural juice, water. During one of my first GR doctor  visit, I asked her if I should take  my medicine with food or without, she said it doesn’t matter.  On this discussion forum some people
mentioned to me with regards of other subject that I should
take a Ribo with some fat and I should keep a LAW fiber. Actually in the evening I usually eat a lot of fiber. Now I am a little confuse – is it really make any different on treatment. I can definitely   brake my habits during tx  if   I know for sure it works. Any suggestions will appreciate. Buy the way, my viral load drop (on week 17) still a little bit confusing, but there are a good hope.. No side effects so far from tx.

I am not on treatment yet but I'm sure someone will chime in about your post soon.  I don't eat breakfast either but I guess I really should.  I know on occasion when I do get something to eat prior to lunch I feel much better.  About taking medications without food, you can take some meds without eating first but this is an ill advised practice especially when taking antibiotics.  Also I've read on this forum that when you're on treatment and prior to taking Ribavarin you are supposed to eat something first, or feel queazy later.  It sounds obvious from your post that you are getting away with taking your meds prior to eating, good for you I hope it lasts.  I know old habits die hard, but I'm sure you will start eating better when you need to.  God Bless

Taking riba with food is supposed to increase absorption so it is very important. If you take x mg per day with food it might be like absorbing only 2/3 of this total without (not sure about the difference but it's just to give you an idea), therefore reducing the effectivness of your treatment, that could result in less chances of becoming SRV. Beside riba has a pretty boring taste so I always liked to eat it with something else while on treatment.

You need to eat something fattening when you take the Riba! This is important for absorption.  A spoonful of peanut butter is better than nothing. Ice Cream for the nightly dose is a good idea.

I had the same sort of diet as you (no breakfast) but after learning how crucial it is (believe me nurses don't know everything to do with this disease and neither do doctors if they don't keep up with the latest studies) to take your riba with food (the riba binds to the fat and you need that so you don't pee it all out - the riba is CRUCIAL to your success) I started making myself take it with a yogurt smoothie (not low fat) every morning.

You should take your pills 12 hours a part every day.

That way I'd take the pills in the am with a yogurt shake at 7am and then again at 7pm with dinner to get the best fat intake possible.

Seriously, it's crucial you build up a good serum level in your blood.  The riba can make or break treatment.  Please take this advice!
