What's next???

Hello.  My wife just completed Hepatitis C treatment 5 weeks ago using Pegtron @ 100 um plus Rivabirin @ 1,000 um.  The 12 & 24 results were favorable but then our last result was not good, she actually ended up with the same viral numbers.

We are located in Mexico so fortunately we only payed for the full treatment around $2,000 USD.  We were hoping to have good results so that we would feel comfortable when we move to the USA.  In the company I work for they need me to move to El Paso, TX 79936 and I am afraid of the costs of the next treatments need to be taken because we don't want to give up.  My wife is strong and she completed all 52 weeks of treatment.

Please advice your comments and let me know what is next???  I have talked to my wife about joining trials testing and she is on for it but the USA is a new world for us so we would appreciate any advice or recommendations.

Thanks,
Desperate Husband.

Thanks for your reply.  She did have a biopsy before getting into treatment and the results were quite confusing because it said she has active chronic cirrhosis post hepatitis C, but it also said she has very discrete fibrosis with lots of regenerative cells in the liver.  Isn't this contradictory?  That was why Dr decided to put her into Pegtron + Ribavirin treatment.

What would be the next treatment?  Is it costly?  I've heard about medical trials in the US by well recognized laboratories, where can we join one?  Is it recommended?  What about a transplant, when is it time?

Sorry for the too many questions but I really need your clarification.

Thanks and regards.

The most important information you need is to find out the state of your wife's liver.  Did she have a liver biopsy and what were the results?

After 52 weeks of tx your wife should have at least 6 months drug free, no matter how strong she is.  If you are moving to the USA for the first time then that's stressful and not a good time for her to be on the tx drugs either.

When you know how much liver damage your wife has you will be able to decide on how much time she has before she needs to treat again.  In the meantime keep reading this forum and learn more about your alternatives.

Good luck.  Your wife sounds like a good 'un.
