What's worse lung infiltration or hyperthyroidism?

Thankyou all for convincing me to go to emergency room. I have been suffering with extreme shortness of breath and I can't talk or walk without an uncontrolable cough which then leads to rapid heartbeat and chest preasure. Well, today I found out that I have a hyperthyroid and was given Methimazole 10mg, which shares many of the same side effects of those of HCV treatment, including hair loss. Presently my hair-part is getting wider and wider. I think I'll soon be looking like Galliger. Remember, he's the dude in a pair of overalls who smashes watermelons with a sledge hammer.
l also found out today I may have early stages of lung infiltration (or) atelectatic change in one of the lung bases due to some kind of, "ill-defined increased density over the vertebral column inferiorly" What ever that is. Oh ya, I also recieved an Rx fo Doxycycine 100 mg.
Anyway, on Monday, I will be having a Compted Tomograpgy (CT) and Wednesday, Pulmonary Funtion Test. Oh, ya ---I am going manic with the Prednizone.
I can't even think of the thyroid, because its so hard to breath. I'm terrified of sufficating. does anyone know about this?

sorry to hear of your woes. but, this is a hep C tx and most of us are hep C patients. are you on tx for hep C? do you even have hep C? good luck.

Are you on treatment for C?  There are several people here who lost their thyroids temporarily or permanently due to the treatment.  I believe the thyroid goes hyper and then hypo.

There are also some pulmanary issues related to hepatitis C.  Basically, it is thought that the virus inflames the bronchial and lung areas in the same manner as it does the liver. You were smart to have these tests run.

My thyroid was completely hyper (Tsh of .00) and then in the 3 weeks time I got the appointment with the endo doctor and they did the nuclear imaging scan it turned hypo.  This is the VERY common thing to happen!

Fortunately, Synthroid seems to be managing my thyroid function just fine and I just take one pill a day.  It's really no big deal compared to other things that could happen.

But yes hair loss is a BIG problem but it DOES grow back and it grows back like a weed!

These - were possible sides of tx.

So - yeah - the hypothyrodism feels about right for TX as Interferon can and does cause problems with the thyroid.

The breathing on the other hand - was something none of us were familiar with other than the typical Riba Cough - stuff - and it was sounding more like pneumonia.

The Doxi (antibiotic) should help.

The Prednisone (which they give me when my asthma gets out of hand and I go below 70% lung capacity) will give you some problems - BUT ---- you WILL be fine (unless you're one of those RARE people who cannot tolerate Prednisone as a steroid). You will have weight gain on Prednisone - and your body WILL be addicted to it --- make sure you follow the explicit instructions on dosage on the package. Steroids are nothing to mess around with.

Diem - I'm so glad you went. Your Symptoms were scary to me.

Hugs - and hope all those tests just turn out to be a bad case of something that will clear up with the Doxicyclen.

PS - don't worry about the hair - IT GROWS back --- if you're supposed to have hair - you'll have it back within 3-4 months after TX. Keep smiling.
