When to get 2nd biopsy after treatment is over

Hello Everybody,
I'm 5 months off TX, got kicked off week 35 this time due to anemia again (2 blood transfusions ick). First TX I got kicked off at 24 weeks. So I'm waiting to see if I relapsed at 6 months like I did the first time.

Has anyone had 2 biopsies? One before TX and one after TX? If so how long did you wait before you had one done?

As Trinity suggests no need to biopsy if SVR. Also really no need to wait for six months to test for SVR as the three month post tx test is just as accurate unless you're stage four.

Certainly you could test now at five months and be quite certain one way or another. If relapse, you could biopsy any time to help make decisions moving forward.

I wouldn't really go for another biopsy right away if you've had one recently.  What you do need is your second PCR is that what you mean instead?

God I'm sorry.  This junk just ***** so much.  Maybe this time though 35 is enough.  What week did you get to UND? I'm terrible at remembering peoples stats.  IF you only got in 24 last time maybe you'll get a good Christmas present this year and the 35 will have done it.

I certainly hope so and I will be watching for that SVR post to come from you.

I have been wondering how you were doing. Sorry to see that you were taken off tx. I remember you were supposed to go 72 weeks but had severe problems with anemia and having to take transfusions. Perhaps a shorter tx course in the future with one of the new PIs will do it for you.

If you SVR, unless you just absolutely must know if or to what degree tx has reversed your fibrosis, I would not have another biopsy.  Why not a  less invasive test such as a fibroscan if available in your area, or even fibrosure.  If you don't SVR, it is recommended you are closely monitored and biopsy is performed at least every three years. Most trials require a biopsy to have been given within 1 yr.  
If you're determined to have another biopsy I would wait at least a year or 18 mo. and only then if you SVR.  That way your liver has had ample time to heal.
