Like Hector, I am on a combination of Xifaxin and Lactulose.  The Xifaxin has been very helpful for me.  My insurance covers it, with a copay of $40.

Yes, this is rifaximin. It has help me very much in stabilizing my HE. I know there is at least on study that shows it to be more effective than lactulose in the treatment of HE. Although I am taking both at this time, which is now the standard treatment protocol.

Since it is a new drug it is relatively expensive. I get mine at Walgreens here in Northern California. The retail price is $639 for 90 pills. My co-pay is $45.
