Yellow Stool and Interesting Symptoms

by amleth20, Aug 06, 2003 12:00AM
About 4 months ago, I came down with an interesting illness that made me very sick with abdominal pain.  After no improvement, I went to the emergency room and the doctor told me that there wasn't anything significantly wrong with me. Two weeks later, I still wasn't great and went in to see yet another doctor. This time it was a nurse practitioner who thought I might be having ulcer symptoms. I tested positive for H. Pylori and was put on Protonix, Flagyl, and Amoxicillin.  She also re-tested a liver enzyme (SGPT) that she thought was on the high end of the normal range from when I went to the emergency room.  It was higher. After I started taking the Protonix, my stool turned yellow and stayed only yellow for a while.  I still wasn't feeling the good and went to see her again.  She retested the SGPT again and it was even higher. That was the end of May. I then went in at the beginning of July and was improved, but was still achy and having on and off yellow stool, so she ordered en entire liver profile that included tests for Hep B and C (I tested neg. for A in the emergency room). I haven't heard from her, so I assume those tests came out alright. Recently I took some Pepto Bismol and noticed a yellow chunk mixed in with the dark stool and I started to think about gallstones/bile stones. I've been having on and off yellow stool (a few times it's been mixed normal and light), upper right back and abdomen pain, and gas.  I had wisdom teeth (which I think were infected) removed last week.  Could the teeth have been the problem, a gallbladder problem, or something else?

Hello - I am new to the hep world so if you are asking if the color/consistancy of your stool is hep related, I am not sure.  But, regarding the results from your test - I wouldn't assume anything.  I would call and find out for sure.

hi ther i am on protonix as well. it works great for me. although, since i started weight watchers, i only take it when i need it. i lost 25 pounds on the diest and cut out all bad foods, so i think thats why i dont need it too much. my sister is on it as weel. i take 40mg one a day, she takes 40mg  2 times a day. i havent had any problems with it though as far as yellow stools or anything. i hope evrything goes well for you. keep us posted.

Sorry but this is a forum for hepatitis patients and is unmoderated.  While there is a GI physician's assistant who posts regularly, there are no doctors here.  As far as your stool color goes, with acute hepatitis, it is clay colored and your urine would be dark.
