Yellowing of eyelids

Yellowing of eyelids

Hi everyone...

Not sure if you all remmebr me, tested positive for Hep C, still waiting test results of VL and GT but most preliminary blood tests show within normal range except for slightly elevated ASL and ALT...Have had a liver/spleen scan but no results yet.

This morning I discovered a strip of yellow color on the skin of both eyelids (whites of eyes seem clear and no yellow)...As you can imagine my first reaction was jaundice...

Has anyone experienced this?

I don't see my Doc for another 2 weeks and sure would appreciate any advise as to how much I should be concerned...I don't have a whole lot of confidence in my family physician but he can't get me into see a Hep Doc till August, but if this discolor is an indication of severe liver damage I hope he has the good sense to at least order a biopsy before hand....

Another mediacl problem to add to my already overflowing brain of worry....

Thanks

Beth

thank you Lulu and Aubbie....

It's a thin strip of yellow in the crease of my eyelid and nowhere else is there any discoloration, as you can imagine cirrhosis was my first thought...I started taking Milk Thistle 3 weeks ago and ever since then I have had an achy pain in the upper right side under my rib cage (which I never had before) and now this yellow....I find it hard to believe that Milk Thistle can be the problem, but other than jaundice I have no other explanation...Is it possible to have all normal LFT and cirrhosis?

I tried researching it on the net and really couldn't find much...

About 7 years ago, I had a doctor tell me that the yellowing of my eyelids was probably due to something with my liver or cholesterol problems.  She was actually a dermatologist.  She didn't run any tests.  I didn't see her but one time and she didn't want to treat me because she didn't like my insurance coverage at that time.  But, she did make that comment to me.  I still have the yellowing of the eyelids.  It seems to be more towards the middle and in the creases.

Hi Susan:

Thanks for the info...Have you asked your Hep Doctor about the yellowing on your eyelids...Yours sounds exactly like mine...

Beth, it does not sound like jaundice to me. Jaundice is not common with HCV and it starts in the mucous membranes of the eye and mouth. Then the whites get yellow. You would have coca cola colored urine and whitish stools if you were juandiced.

Beth,,,This is a new one to me.  I have never heard of yellowing of the eyelids having to do with hep.  Always,,,jaundice,,,yellowing of the inside of the eye.  Please let us know results when you get and what your dr comments on this.  Best Wishes to you!

HI I got these health problems too, maybe being anxious can drive us cocooo. Seriously CALL your MD and ASK? If its one thing I cant stand is a md who wont explain and talk to us . I truley think any yellowing should be checked out. HOW much yellowing and is that the only place? DONT despair and get it checked to put your mind at ease call him and tell I have to know.a few things. I write it down and ask, you will be releived, I ask a stupid question one time, IS the buldge FAT or my liver swollen? I was embarressed but no Question is dumb! Iam learning alot from this site and thank god for it. GET IT CHECKED OUT . MY thoughts are with you. Aubbie

I have been on BP meds for 2 years now and started tx in March.  HCTZ and Lisiniprol.  My doc kept me on both until a couple of weeks ago because my BP was dropping well below 100/60 and I was not functionable.  Not sure if the meds contributed to that or the fact that I lost approximately 20 pounds helped lower the BP.  Either way, I currently only take the HCTZ and it has worked out so far, I'm at 120/85 for the time being.  I would just make sure you monitor it closely while on tx and let your doc know what's going on.  :)

thanks so much for your info, I was worried about that..I am trying to loose some weight in hopes that the BP will lower on it's own....I am currently averaging 110/69 which is kind of low so I am hoping the weight loss will allow me to be able to give up the meds, we'll see....

Honey:

I was glad to hear that you do not think this is liver related, my mind has been on this all weekend...Yes, of course when I find out what this is I will let the forum know...Last night I was thinking about my BP meds, one of the warnings on the bottle is stay out of the sun...Well telling me to stay out of the sun is like telling a fish to stay out of water so maybe this could be the cause, not sure, it's a long shot, but maybe...

That's another question I wanted to ask of this forum, is being on BP meds going to be a problem when determinig if they will treat me or not?

Thanks everyone

Beth

I also have yellowing of the my eyelids.  I don't have any other health problems and I have had it for years.
Don't have any idea what causes it.  Docs don't know.
