about % rates

I am on treatment for hep c and have heard that it's only 40 % effective for Genotype 1. Is the % rate so low becouse some people stop early for whatever reason? Every one i've talked to that kept going and took the Medication twice a day and the shot once a week had good luck.

Drop outs are figured into the cure rate.
So how long have you tx'd?
BTW, odds are better if you are; young, female, low begining VL, low liver damage and not overweight.

Geno 1 is a more difficult type to treat.

My PCP says that the cure rate in Europe is much higher, something like 80%, I guess coz the prevalent genotype is different.

If you reach UND early, the effectiveness rate is much higher.  At the very least, you want to have a 2 log drop by week 12.

If you're still not clear at week 12 (like me) then you treat for another 12 weeks and if you then reach UND SOC is to do extended TX.

I don't think the success rate you cite of 40% is due to people dropping out.  It's more because we're in a difficult-to-treat subgroup.

What week are you on and what was your VL?

VL was 5 mill and liver has scarring but not cirrhosis. Have only been on TX for less then two weeks. My Brother went through the program and it seemed to work.

Do you know if you're 1A or 1B?

The relapse rates are interesting. A geno 1 relapser is someone who has had at least a 2 log drop by week 12, who is UND (undetected) at the latest by week 24, and who then remains UND until the end of treatment, but relapses after treatment is ended.

So people quitting early for any reason, such as dropouts or adverse advents, are not included in the relapse rate. Neither are non-responders or people who have viral breakthrough during treatment.

Hope this helps!
