ambien

ambien

i see a lot of us are taking ambien for sleep.
just a bit of info i have gathered through the last few years in the er where i work about ambien.
most sleep experts prefer ambien for pt's that have sleeping problems, because it alows a deeper sleep than most other drugs (which are either hypnotics or barbiturates) does less damage to the liver (if any not real sure on this one but have been told by the sleep guys that is the least toxic of sleeping agents) does not cause hang overs in almost all cases.
there is one possible side to be considered with ambien,
ocasionaly we see a person that gets psycosis on it, but that is very rare and almost always starts with the first dose
so you have taken it and no problems then you shouldnt have any problems in the future.
one last thing, i re3mber the first ambien over dose we had in the er not bieng real sure as it was a new drug back then we called poison controle. the person had taken 30 ambien poison controle said just let them sleep it off you do not even begin to consider it an overdose till they have taken a minum of 40 pills.
so for those of us taking ambien to get some decent sleep it
is probably one of the best drugs for that with the least sides.

Thanks for the info. I've increased my ambian intact as I am further into tx and was worried about this. I don't take over 10mg a night so I guess I am worried needlessly but it's good to hear this. Do you have any info on how it is when you stop taking it after months on it? Thanks. LL

My dr won't prescribe ambien as he says it can be addicting.  Said to try benadryl???   But I'm thinking that is for itching?  Has anyone tried that for restless nights.  haha Ringading...even when you finish tx...you will have to come to this board to keep us amused!  I am just starting tx this next week and have a whole year if I continue after the 3 month mark and I will have to come to this board on a daily basis just to get my kicks for the day.  You really are a hoot!

beneddryl can be  very drying to your sinuses, eyes and skin.  ambien is habit forming but not addicting.

I took Ambien before (10 mg. a night) and through tx.  It seems to be one of the best sleep agents out there. The psychiatrist who rx'd it for me, said it was a good one for not causing a lot of liver concerns and the best for a good restful sleep. And no next day hangover. *hopiangel*

hospitals have used benadryal for sleeping aid for years.
i have even seen it use on a pediatriac ward for sleep aid.
another litle fact as it can be used (injectable form) as
a local anestetic on pt's that are alergic (allergic) to lidocain.
however a lot of people complain about the hangover form benadryl and i at least have never heard of an ambien hangover.

One liqud Nyquil Capsule works very well for me.

I prefer to get pain meds from doc and he sure as hell won't give me both!

benadryl is also a sleep aid, and is the active ingredient in tylenol p.m.  Take 2 benadryl = same dose in tylenol p.m. without the APAP.  The active ingredient in benadryl also impairs your ability to drive and function the next day.  Studies show that it can be worse than alcohol.  Ambien on the other hand is very safe and doesn't impair cognition.  Hope this helps.

I am glad to hear this too.  I had about a month where all I could do was sleep, now for the last week I am up half the night, every night and Ambien isn't helping.  Went from half a pill to a whole one and still not sleeping.

Man, ya'll better just sit back and smoke a joint.  The best thing about tokin' on tx is NO MUNCHIES!!!!

Join the 'light-up' side, 25% (and growing) of the population might be on to something.

I used Trazadon (SP?), took 50mg.  NEver felt hung-over and it's not suppose to be habit forming.  Worked great for me and never had to increase the dosage.  I still take it from time to time as needed.

The only thing that has helped me sleep is xanax. I get the hangovers, but they don't last and I sleep like a baby. I'd try the smoke, but I'm allergic. Sometimes it sucks to be me. I miss all the fun stuff!     Joni
