I posted this in the post-tx section by accident !!!!
was notified today that the VA approved tx for my chronic hep c. Have had it since early 70's..Genotype 1a. Prev treated with interferon, I did not tolerate it. Waiting for an appointment now with a Dr. in town who has had a lot of experience with new drugs for Hep C. Sounds like I may be doing he 3 pill regiment. Prob gonna start beginning of Sept. I am asymptomatic, but my blood values are all out of whack. My primary doc told me that even tho I am asymptomatic, when IT hits me, I'm going down fast-that's why I seeked tx. I'm only 63 y.o.; I have too many things to do yet. I'm in great shape (work-out 3x a week) 155 lbs. Of course, I'm apprehensive about tx. I hope to be posting on here as I embark on this 'journey'
I tried to get the VA to cover mine a couple of years ago and it was a no go. I started a Interferon and Ribiviron treatment in 2008 and it failed. In 2010 I did get in on a Incivek/Interferon/Ribiviron trial and was pronounced SVR in 24 weeks. Here I am 6 years later and I am still non-detectable. I feel great and have plenty of energy. So, to you my friend, you can do it. I am 60 years old and I feel great. You can check out my journal if you want.
