autoimmune - numb feet / legs

Folks,

I am 1a almost six months into treatment and I think I have a serious problem.  My feet and lower legs are numb if I am not standing up.  This started early on but is now unbearably uncomfortable when I try to sleep.  I've seen some threads for this but not enough to draw comfort that this is just
one of the sx.  For the last two months I have been hyperthyroid.  Not fun with the extreme weight and hair loss.  So I'm already having autoimmune problems and I fear the worse and am considering
getting off the meds.  My GI doesn't really give me the time of day and I fear would take me off without giving it much thought if I asked.  I couldn't get a second opinion until may 19th.  What a world.  Please give me your thoughts.  I'm stage 2 grade 2 und at wk 12 the first pcr test.

My hubby (Walrus) has complained a little of some of these same symptom. Are you treating the hyperthyroidism? That alone might cause the numbness--but well, of course I am not a doc.
If you are going for 48 weeks, you only have 12 more, maybe you can just hang in there..being UND at 12 weeks is good news. We also have a very disinterested GI doc (well a whole clinic of them!) and Walrus has hesitated to tellthem much of anything because he doesn't want to have them just yank him off TX w/o really thinking about it.
Hopefully others can give you better advice. walrus just lives with it...llike most of the other SX'es becasue he's determined to go the full 72 weeks..no matter what.
Good Luck to you,
Liz

Sorry to hear that you are going thru this. You should consider seeing a Neurologist. Also maybe you should be checked for cryoglobulins.

hope things get better for you,

Thanks for the helpful support.  One more blood test to determine if I'm still hyper and then the endo will treat it.  She also said that many people have nerve damage during treatment and nine out of ten times it reverses after treatment.  I'm not seeing "many people" referencing this in this forum and can only hope that it is as common as she says.  halfway through tx this friday is a good thing and looking forward to spring.  new england winter was harsh this yr.

I am 2b and developed worsening neuropathy of my legs and hands. I am in week 16 of 24 and my GI doc said this may not be reversable. Hummmmm, living with numbness in hands and feet or dying of liver failure. Only you can decide if the risk outweighs the benefits!
