biopsy month ago-continued pain

biopsy month ago-continued pain

I had my first liver biopsy May 1st.  I had more pain with the biopsy than the doc expected.  He did say that I could resume my regular activities the next day, however.  I was told by others that I should take it easy for 3-7 days and I followed that advice since I was having alot of pain and discomfort.  I STILL have sharp pain in my biopsy area.  I don't always have pain but it will come on and then last for a couple days, I take it easy and it gets better.  I haven't done any lifting, pushing, pulling, etc. since the biopsy.  Trying to heal my liver.  This is just getting ridiculous.  I searched the archives and found a couple of references to this type of continued pain post-biopsy but no responses.  I hope by now someone may have some answers or ideas for me.  One of the archives said that their doc was holdong off treatment until their liver got better and the pain went away and that was already 3 months after their biopsy.  I'm supposed to see gastro on the 29th to start tx.  I don't want to put treatment off any longer.  I've been told by my general phys. to wait and hope it would go away beacause exploratory surgery would also cause a delay and more pain.  Has anyone had a similar experience or any advice or answers for me on this?  Thanks and take care, Sue

I didn't have pain after my bx(3 years ago) but did have INTENSE iching at the needle insertion site for about 2 months so bad that I wanted to rip my skin to get to the itch. Went back to my GI Doc and he said he had never heard of anything like that before and it most likly was not related to the surgury!!!! After my skin was raw I went to an accupucturist and that helped. Good luck, keep searching for answers, I have pain now and have had for 6 months sharp shooting pains and a dull ache. NOt all the time put its annoying, and yes, my doc says "not related to liver" that doctor was fired.

Thanks for your input, I will just keep hoping that the pain goes away and I'll start tx still at the beginning of July.  I also had a rash shortly after the biopsy and that went away, it didn't itch, though.  I hope you find a new doc who can give you some answers.  Thanks again, and best wishes to all of us!

I had no problems with my first 3 BX. But My 4th one, felt very different right after the procedure. I also had a pain that hung on...I went back to my DR and he said it was most likely a small amount of blood that had seeped out of the wound from the liver. The pain and weird feeling that accompanied it lasted about 2 months after my BX...

Hang in it will go away..

I had my first biopsy 3 weeks ago.  Everything went well and all pain at extration site and shoulder pain have been gone for 2 weeks.  Yesterday I had a dull pain in my side and today I feel like I just had the biopsy done.  Any ideas what has happened that the pain should return after 2 weeks???

You just responded to a post that is from 2005. I'd encourage you to start your own post.
As far as your pain goes, you should call the doctor who performed the biopsy.
