bleeding

For the ladies, After starting treatment I have had low platelets for clotting. last test was at 87, I will get my latest results tomorrow. Has anyone had a problem with excessive bbleeding on their period as well as continuing non stop (some light days) I am afraid it is from the low platelets and they are going to take me off of treatment.
Treatment has been rough, I had a bout of pnuemonia so I am on antibiotics for a month, clarinex and now on an antidepressant Lexapro. As well as the boyfriend leaving this is getting unbearable for me.

I think your post somehow got lost in the shuffle.  People here are normally much more welcoming of new folks, so please allow me to say "welcome" on behalf of everyone.  This is a good place for support.

Due to the severe nature of your liver damage, I strongly suggest you start a new thread and re-tell your story (or just cut and paste it) so it doesn't get overlooked. There are a number of people here who I'm sure can offer you some very useful advice.

I'm only at Stage 1, so my situation isn't quite as urgent as yours.  However, I'm doing a number of things to keep my liver as healthy as possible until better treatment options come along.  You'll find a list of those things on the thread above titled "Q for Tallblonde".

Good luck to you, Rick.

Dear chev,
Just sorry I didn't pop back sooner and see your message.
You're very sweet, and thank you.  I have a fear of telling some things to the doc for fear of ending treatment.  That's why it's always great to search through here and see others experiencing the same things.
Thanks Chev, Robin

The first wild period I had like that I thought I was going to bleed to death if I didn't go to the hospital too.  Of course I didn't, but it was scary.  I had a few like that and then it subsided.  My platelets lowered too and my doc put me on a reduced dose of Pegysus.  I wondered if the heavy menses had anything to do with the lowered platelets, so now I make sure that I get my lab work done before my period hits.  A few weird things have happened while on treatment(just finished week 28), that made me wonder if I was going to die.  Scary enough to make me put my little one in his room because I didn't want him to wake up with me dead.  Just goes to show how we can work ourselves up when something different and strange is going on with our bodies.  But so far all lab work is still fine.
Take care and God Bless. Robin

I experienced hmuch heavier bleeding than normal then nothing and the times were inconsistent. Normally I was like clockwork and very short and very light. I was on tx for 18 montha and didn't have any period for the last 6 or 7 months. My hepatologist office informed me this is very normal. Tx also cause me to have thyroid probolems which will only exaggerate these probloems since that also affects your hormones. I am 6 months post tx and things are closer to normal now. I was kind of hoping maybe they were over. Oh well. I hope you feel better. LL

Hi everyone, Im Rick and I was diagnosed with HepC about 3 or 4 years ago. Had a biopsy immediately, and the doc said in all his years of service, he had never seen such a badly deteriorated liver for a person of my age. I am now 49, then I was like 45 or 46. he said I was real close to having Cirrhosis. I tried interferon treatment for about 6 weeks. 1 injection in the fatty tissue every week. By week 6 I was so anemic and weak I could scarcely get from the bedroom to the living room. I told the doc I have a 3-4 yr old girl to raise, so I cannot see continuing treatment, as I would just not be physically able to raise her. So I discontinued treatment, and about 2-3 weeks later, my energy level came back and about 2-3 weeks after that I felt great. Great compared to what the interferon made me feel like. I too have a problem with nosebleeds. Sometimes frequent, sometimes not. Most times they come for no apparent reason. Like about 2 weeks ago. Im driving down the road, everythings fine, then BAM! it starts. Had to pull over and stuff a wick in it.   LOL!
I know that by discontinuing the treatment, my chances for survival are diminished, but I would rather BE there for my daughter and my wife for the next say 10-15 years rather than do the treatment for 1 year complete, 52 weeks straight, and miss out on that entire year because I would be tooo anemic to function. The way I see it, my time here on this planet is limited no matter what I do or dont do. Thats just life. Its all a matter of perception. I dont know about the rest of you people, but I KNOW how I contracted this godawful disease. I was an active Alcoholic Drug addict and didnt really give a hoot what happened to me at that time. Well, how things change. I now have 11 years clean and sober, have a wife, a child, and a wonderful life to live. I just have to live it within the constraints of this disease for as long as I can, to the best of my ability. Anything past that is up to God, or Whomever there is at the helm of all reality. If they come up with a treatment that  does not put me outta commision completely for the duration of the treatment, then I will most certainly consider taking the treatment. I am happy this forum is available to us for communicating with each other.
