bx results

Hi All-
Just wanted to let you know I got my results today- Stage 1!!!! I can't friggin believe it, thought I was at the very least mid-stage 2. I'm definitely gonna wait for the new drugs to come out now. Y'know, I'm happy about these results but I feel for all my fellow heppers on here who weren't pleasantly surprised with their bx results. It can go either way and it sure is scary waiting to see. Of course we've still gotta get my hubby in for a bx so the stress ain't over yet!
Another thing- my Fibrospect results were 60- which put me at early Stage 3 I think. If I had not had this bx I would've tx'ed soon, thinking I had to. My Fibrospect was WAY off- so to anyone who has had one I would really recomend getting the bx. It's simply not worth getting upset over the results when they can be so off the mark.
Well I just wanted to share my news and also thank you all for being here to support and teach me. If I hadn't found this site with all you courageous people, I would not have had the guts to face this Hep C again, call my doc and do what had to be done. Of course I'm far from being done with asking questions- I still have a lot to learn and I do want to rid myself of this virus someday.
Best wishes and prayers to all of you,
Dee

That is great news and you do have time to consider the next step you want to take.  Get hubby in there so all can be behind you.  Have a great long weekend.

Just another example of why I really really REALLY think it's important to tell people to have that biopsy over the Fibro test every single time.  We've read so MANY cases of it varying greatly that it's amazing.

Congrats to you! To go from a 3 to a 1 - wow that has to be the greatest thing next to not having it at all!  :)

Congrautlations!

But before we throw blood marker results (like Fibrosure and Fibrospect) out the window -- your doctor should have explained to you that Fibrospect is only accurate at the two extreme's (F0-F1/F4) with a cut off of 40. Your "60" was right in the middle therefore never should have been taken as a reliable measure. That doesn't mean necessarily mean the test is bad, just the interpretation.

Yeah, NYGirl, I'm glad I went for the bx! I didn't wanna, was being kind of a big baby about it... but good thing I did. I just kept telling myself, well just about all my friends on medhelp have had bx's. if they can do it I can get another one too. It helps to know you're not alone, that's for d@mn sure. NYGirl, I hope you're doing OK- I know  what you went thru was very traumatic and it takes time to recover. I think you're being very strong- here you are supporting other people just like you always have- that is awesome. I hope your kids are well too- one thing someone told me is that kids budget their grief, In other words, their sadness just disappears for a while and they seem perfectly happy- then something happens to bring it all back and they have an absolute meltdown. Then back to normal! Just thought I'd share it with you in case you encounter it cuz it happened with my kids.
  Prayers and hugs,
Dee

Thank you all for your congrats- it really means a lot to me. This forum is the only place I can talk about liver stuff and actually be undrstood. The only people who know I have  Hep C are my husband, my Mum and my Aunt. My husband avoids talking about it, out of fear I believe. And Mum and Auntie are supportive but I don't wanna worry them.
Yes, I am very much relieved that I don't need to tx now. My kids are 13 and 9, busy ages and they don't know I have Hep C. Also I drive for a living, which can be difficult as I have serious problems with daytime sleepiness. I just hafta be careful to get enough sleep at night and nap if I need to in the day. But if I added tx to the mix... I might now be able to safely do my job. And I sure as h=ll can't afford to quit! So it's better this way for sure..., but I have learned that I can't just walk away thinking, I'm all set. I must keep monitoring my liver and make sure that I do treat when the time is right.
I wish you all the best of health and SVR.

Hi- Thank you for you congrats also. I know what you mean about the Fibrospect not being too reliable in the middle stages/numbers. My doc did tell me that too but I think I misunderstood. I thought that if the score came back as over 40 but under 84 it definitely meant one was Stage 2 or 3, but couldn't pinpoint exactly which one.
Now I think I get it... tell me if I'm wrong. If the test comes back with a score under 40 or over 80, one is most surely a Stage 1 (under 40) or 4(over 80). But if the test comes back with a score of anything in between those numbers, one could be anything from a Stage 1 to a Stage 4.
I'll assume I'm finally right unless you tell me otherwise. Thank you so much for your always well thought and informative posts.
  Best wishes and prayers,
Dee

Thank you! I'm sure I'll have to do tx in the future, but not right now- which is great cuz it's just not a good time... but is it ever?
How are you doing? I haven't seen a post from you in a while, unless I've missed it. I hope all is well and that you had a good summer.
  Best wishes and prayers,

Stage 1 is fantastic, especially since you had the bad (and false) news first. What a relief, right? I was stage 1 also, and felt like I almost didn't have the virus....I would have been relieved with a stage 2. The stage 1 is really a gift of time.

Congrautlations!  those are very good news.
Was it your first bx ? I mean if you have any info about the pregression of the disease in your case.
I did Fibrotest and Fibroscan that said Stage 4 and then I did the bx said stage 2-3, docs say that the bx is the most accurate and I hope that they are right in my case.

Hi Lady bug- I'm so happy that you got the dx of Stage 1 also- it does put a whole new perspective on everything. I'm still in disbelief- but in a good way for once! I too was hoping for Stage 2- thought my doc was way too optomistic when he said "You might still be a Stage 1" after my 60 score on FibroSpect.
Jack- Thank you! This was my 2nd bx- my 1st was in 96 and my doc is pulling the records but he thinks I was Stage 0 then. I'd only had Hep C for about 5 years tops then. So I'm sure I've had some progression- but not much. I do know now, from this site, that this disease is not linear so I can't go skipping off for another 11 years thinking nothing's gonna happen. But for now, it's all good. Wow, you must have been phsyced to get your bx results! After hearing Stage 4 on 2 tests, then to get 2-3 which isn't bad at all- *sigh of relief*. Of course as we know, Stage 4 is workable too- requires more vigilance, but still treatable in many cases. I would believe the bx since it is still the gold standard. Good luck with everything!
Best wishes and prayers to  both of you,
Dee
