Eating a big mac will proberly damage the liver more than a puff of grass....LOL....as long as you dont smoke a pound a week
I think the jury is still out on whether cannabis causes progression. It is a risk factor for fibrotic progression which doesn't necessarily translate into it actually causing damage.
Pot smoking is higher in IVDU and alcohol users. IVDU and alcohol abuse have been linked to advancing fibrotic progression. IVDU,alcohol, and pot use can be directly correlated to smoking cigarettes, which has its own detrimental effects on overall health. I haven't seen a study on this topic yet that has separated the all of the wheat from the chaff.

Pot was recommended to me by a leading hepatologist (liver specialist) during treatment to help combat nausea, a suppressed appetite and weigh loss. It has been used for years for HIV patients with similar problems. While long term pot use may accelerate fibrosis progression, I doubt that using it during treatment would have any effect other than a net beneficial effect, assuming its needed.

The stuff they have today is bio-engineered, I'm sure. Definitely not the Mexican of the '70s. You don't need much. I'm another year away from getting my security clearance due to smoking it early last year, and we don't have the medical card here on the East coast, so I won't be partaking to help with my treatment :( Fortunately, I haven't had too many eating issues so far. I heard daily use is bad for the liver. The last go 'round, I was an occasional user, to mean one of the weekend nights, I'd have a little. I wouldn't get any school work done if I did any more, probably sit there and stare at my screensaver. I just wish they'd legalize the stuff. Far less bad than the legal drug in my opinion...for anybody. So, have a hit for me, if it's helping you get through this, go for it.
I only need two or three puffs of a pure joint (I don't smoke tobacco, so I smoke them pure). And I don't intend to do it on a daily basis, only the days that I'm nauseous I may take some. So I don't think that such small amount of cannabis would really cause significant liver damage.
Hello Rocker,
Just my opinion....the anti-d's are hard on the liver as well as pain meds and other medications while on tx and pre and post.
My gp and liver doc are also naturapaths and holistics so took just a few safe alternatives while on tx with other hcv docs approval for sides. I also did anti-d's. With the various bottles tried a few..records say that there was no improvements. a couple made me sick....sicker and more looney.
didn't help at all...and know i took them because it's in the records and as my mind cleared saw the bottles.
If to do again..big if...I'd do weed any old day and everyday to help with the sides and feel sooo much better!
As of now, I can get a medical weed card but haven't so far. I consider it a good natural medicine when used in that manner.
another thing...since it works on the hormones...weed may really be helping to keep the hormones going..just a thought.
Some male habitual weed smokers develop breasts...ha....since after nursing so long ago and then the tx, I shrunk lol...and the tx did a whammy on the endocrine system...might help :)
I have not been a regular user since the 70's and have noticed that those who I know who do look and feel younger than most. They also consume healthy foods and are active...but even the real old timers I know look far younger and have a better sense of well being than those who do not.
I know that there are genetics, diet, etc. to consider but it's something noticable.
Maybe I should get that card :)
I agree with Rocker. You need to keep your nutrition up, but it does enhance progression. I would think keeping it to a minimum, would probably not do any harm.
Pot is a trade off...it is proven it does harm the liver, but its it enable you live by giving you the munchies...if you must smoke it....not too much.
I like this.... love you guys!
Hi... :)
on one of my rare 'remembering days'..., and obviously able to walk and be a part of life somehow....i went out one eve with the dogs to be in the spectacular sunset of many colors...and had smoked some weed that was offered to me by a neighbor.
i felt so good and happy for a change...and ate well with no odd tastes as well...everything tasted bad to bizarre..or no taste at all.
I ate with a great appetite and healthy foods. drank plenty of liquids. the appetite went along with the mind and body.
but i was so bad on the treatment that i never thought of doing weed to help me. and forgot about it after that.
nothing else brought me to that remembered evening.
if it helps, keep on with it..just don't forget like i did!
i have read that weed is not good for people with liver problems and can speed up fibrosis.
i wonder about that....if enough studies/research has been done.
but lots of drugs prescribed by docs are far worse.
if it is helping you get through this and no harm done, do it!
just don't forget!
