chemical imbalance

My father is 74. had a pituitary odema operation in 1989. has been on predinisalone 0.5 mg since. taking thyroxin and aten 50. Of late when ever he falls ill, his sodium and Potassium count goes down, and loses complete control on his body. Has to be put on sodium drip with increase in Prednsalone, and he bounces back to normal.  also has hallucinations for which is taking clyzopine 100 mg. Very healthy otherwise. since it can be a very sudden deterioration very difficult to cope, hospital and all. How does one avoid this situation from occuring,

I don't know that there's anywhere in here for just general coping....I have to say
just do your best to either make sure yourself he is getting and taking the nutrition/rx's he needs to, or if you can't then ask for appropriate help.

sometimes you can share with loved ones taking shifts, I'll make sure he eats breakfast, and a sibling can take their lunch hour, etc. Other times you need to either ask the county visiting nurse program to come in once a day...while you work, or consider a full time care facility called assisted living, where they have their own space, but help with meds, meals etc.

as far as the spiritual side of coping, none of us can stop the clock or prevent the passing of loved ones or our own selves forever.
It's important to come to terms with what that means and examine the role of faith in facing what are the toughest of all questions. where do we go from here. Personally, without knowing Christ, I think this would be the most difficult of all life's experiences but one that is surrmountable with His help.

Back to how quickly your dad goes downhill, it sounds like maybe his medication may need review.
over time, and with weight loss and increased age and less kidney function meds themselves can be overdoses and part of the problem. Make sure and get a full blood work up to make sure his treatment is normalizing his functions and not pushing them too much the other way.
also consider a liquid addition high in the salts he's losing.
But do ask the doctor...WHY is he losing salt so quickly....get to the why, and you may find a solution.
hope that helps/
