You did not fast ... so, don't worry.  Repeat test while fasting.

Niceguy, I would like to correct your statement in the other tread.

You said that "survival period outside of body on dried blood is16 days for HCV ...and 4 days for HIV".

The survival period outside of body is from 16 hrs to 4 days for HCV.  HCV can't survive without living cell (without its "house with dining room", so to say).  This is why scientists have a very difficult time to grow this virus in the tube, outside of the body.

But Hep. B, possibly, may survive outside of the body for ~2 weeks (may be your 16 days came from Hep. B info).  Hep. B is built in more sophisticated way, it's DNA (enveloped & more stable in many different ways).

All the best & Congratulations with beautiful ALTs!

Could be lower, but not terribly high.

What was your HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol) and what was your LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol)? These can be more important than total cholesterol. Also what were your Triglicerides (triglycerides)?

It would also be of interest what were these values before you treated. As to fasting, I don't think you will see a significant difference in cholesterol fasting versus non-fasting, however you may see a significant difference with the triglicerides (triglycerides), so do the next test after fasting overnight.

Why no PCR yet?

Jim: "As to fasting, I don't think you will see a significant difference in cholesterol fasting versus non-fasting, however you may see a significant difference with the triglycerides, so do the next test after fasting overnight."

I agree with you, but I thought if niceguy for breakfast had eggs w/ soft, uncooked yokes, cholesterol levels could be higher for a while --- the same time egg yoke should increase HDL also.  Additionally, if high glucose meal was consumed, it may also temporarily (only temporarily) increase cholesterol level.

Niceguy: Jim asked important questions - what were cholesterol values before treatment.
I personally had approximately the same cholesterol values at age 23 & 26 (just before my 1st treatment) - and I think it is my genetic makeup -- but the same time my HDL (good part) was high.
However, lately, my cholesterol was always low -- most likely due to reduced production of it by my liver, for whatever reason. BTW, my diet was always healthy (with some gilt of extra sweets consumption) -- my grandma, as a biochemist, she ensured that everybody ate well ... and all my life I was to some level underweight.

All the best.

guys won't have the answer  to your questions till a few days.

i never checked my cholesterol in my life.  this is the first test i had. most doctors dont even check it for young people...but maybe thats gonna change now.

jim..
on an unrelated note, i've had severe GERD since wednesday...it came all of a sudden...no clue why..it was preceded by URQ pain the night before... its most severe in the late afternoon and evening, and  it subsides after the night meal...

talahassee.

a sstudy from new zealand suggested that HCV was alive and kicking 16 days after removal from the body, even after exposure to air and even if boiled.  google it...

then how does an autoclave sterilize dental tools if boiling does not kill HCV? i thought an autoclave uses steam or boiling water?

PS, this has been asked several times and you seem to be avoiding answering it, when are you getting the 6 month pcr? we are all hoping for you to give us good news.

Only the values for total cholesterol and HDL cholesterol are unaffected by not fasting so these values would be valid. LDL and triglycerides can be affected by the food ingested within 12 hours so those results would not be unreliable. Mike
