cryptogenic hepatitis

by d, Jun 12, 2000 12:00AM
About 4 years ago, I had a bout of severe acute hepatitis (non A-E, non autoimmune, etc).  No one could figure out what was causing it.  I had a liver biopsy done which revealed moderate fibrosis, but no piecemeal fibrosis.  Within a month or 2 after the biopsy, my liver panel was back to normal (without the use of medication) and my doctor said I was "cured".  I haven't been back to see him since.  At one time, they thought that maybe I had autoimmune hepatitis, but due to the absence of piecemeal fibrosis on my biopsy they ruled it out.  Since then, my ANA has gone up to about 1:320 (still low, I know) and I have had joint paint - sometimes to the point where it gets hard to walk.  Also, they found that I have something called the lupus anticoagulant which might cause me to lose a pregnancy.  I haven't had my enzymes checked in about 3 years because I was "cured".
I would like to start a family soon, but am really worried that something might go wrong.  I also don't believe that I'm "cured" and the underlying liver problems are still there and are going untreated, unmonitored and may show up later.  I need some advice as to what to do (if anything) and what type of doctor to go to.  Thanks!!!
