Yep you are cured. Congratulations!
Make copies of the below links and hand them to your friends. Cure means
Hepatitis C isn't coming back. You are cured.

Just an FYI, SVR reached on inf/riba is just as durable as the new meds
***Well put hepcandme*** I second that.
" I have friends that still have Hep c and seem to think that its always there, that it never really goes away, so they don't treat. What do I say to them? "
You can tell them the virus is not able to replicate itself every 4 days or so like usual, while someone treats with the new medicines. The cell dies every 4 days or so. If it can't recreate new virus cells that means the virus does "go away" because the cells only have a short shelf life. And tell them when it does go away you feel much better. (I think I started to clear at 3 or 4 days into treatment and actually cleared at 2 weeks into treatment when I felt tremendously different..)
Tell your friends that if they do not treat, there is a very good chance they will die from complications as the virus wreaks havoc on their liver and other vital organs
Send them some info about the disease and about the new treatments
Congrats. You are cured!

Yes you will always test positive for exposure, just like with chickenpox or mumps.
Surfside is right, the antibody is always there, but not the disease. The new meds are awesome, but getting them covered is a challenge. I was on Harvoni for 12 weeks. Congrats on your SVR, I just got it myself in June.
You say to them, that with the new direct acting antivirals that are available now, there is definitely a cure. While the antibody is always present to show that a person has been previously exposed, the actual virus is gone. Congratulations to you.
