this might be a silly question, but is it ok to have dental work done while on treatment? is there any kind of issues or special precautions or anything? i mean like root canals, crowns,or especially having teeth pulled?...thanks

From what I've read on here- major dental work should be postponed while on Tx.  I had my wisdom teeth scheduled to be removed, but I rescheduled for a later date.  While on tx, your mouth gets very dry, thus creating dental problems you normally wouldn't have (more cavities, gum problems, etc).  Also, I may be wrong, but while on Tx, your more likely to take longer to heal.    On a similar note, I pierced my ear two weeks before tx.  It was fine until about a week into Tx, and my ear swelled up like a golf ball.  I couldn't eat, sleep, or think because it hurt so bad.  I finally removed the piercing after a week because I couldn't take the pain.  My ear turned dark purple and had pus constantly oozing out.  I had to go on antibiotics. =P It wasn't a pleasant time.

I can't imagine having the fortitude to do something like major dental work while on treatment - let alone all the things that kat said above it was just hard to stay awake most days.

I'd definitely do as much as you can before or wait until after. Interferon can really damage your teeth so chances anything that is not done beforehand will get worse.......so try to take care of anything you can.

You won't want to do it on treatment.

wow. damn. guess it wasn't a silly question after all! well my 2 back bottom teeth(on both sides) have super huge fillings in them and they both have broken, more than likely beyond repair. i'm thinking they'll have to be pulled. so i guess i could just keep brushing at least 3x a day and flossing 2x...i'm just worried they'll get infected and that will be harder to deal with because of tx, but they can always give me antibiotics or whatever if that happens so...gonna continue to hope for the best!! this website has been such a blessing...once i start tx i'm sure i'll utilize it even more than i already do...
