diet while on treatment

Have been on Pegasys & Riba since April - doing OK - viral load neg. in 4 wks.- hair fell out - skin is terrible. Have had 3 Procrit shots for anemic.  Anyway, went to a seminar on ABC's of Hepatitis and was told to eat a balanced diet - NOT too much red meat.  My doctor  had STRESSED to eat lots of red meat and green leafy vegs, so I decided to post this question & get the correct answer from the people that seem to know the best answers.  Thanks.

Hey there,

There really isn’t any specific diet for HCV; whether you’re ding treatment or not. Unless of course, cirrhosis is present. Anyone will benefit from a healthy diet, but I would‘t be concerned about eating anything specifically for Hep C—

I was told by my doc not to eat too much red meat too but he wasn't the sharpest tack in the box and I'm not sure how legit it was.  I found i couldn't really eat red meat (always had been a carnivore before) so I just ate what I could and did the best possible.

Thats really about all you can do sometimes on treatment unfortunately.  I wouldn't sweat it either way just like Bill said but just try to eat the most balanced you can just cause its good for all of you......not just your liver.

Probably your doc was thinking it would help with the anemia but I don't believe it's the same thing at all and wouldn't be able to do too much.
