doctors treating you like drug addicts

When I was on treatment, I had the same anxiety that I have now, along with all the aches and pains you all are going through. The doctor put me on xanax and I went to the pharmacist and ask if they would leave my prescription there and I would come in and get what I needed when I needed it. The drug store had no problem with it. I got 4 pills every Friday night, took one friday 2 saturday and 1 sunday. After 2 refills the dr. wanted me to come in before he would refill my script. He beat around the bush about my need for the drug. I told him of my arrangement and he went out and made a phone call to my pharmicist. Came back and told me he verified my story, and went on to say that he had to be careful giving out controlled substances that will make you high because the fda monitors all controlled substances and if they felt that he was abusing this he could lose his license. After he saw that I was controlling the drugs and not allowing myself to get addicted, he went ahead and refilled my script.

Well that is a good thing - he is a responsible doctor.  I had a doctor who got me completely and totally addicted to pain killers (morphine then to oxycotin 80mgs) and then cut me off point blank to go into complete withdrawl (withdrawal).  I'd prefer a doctor who knows how addictive these drugs can be and make sure that you don't go through that living hell.

It sounds to me like he was just trying to be responsible.  They do monitor these drugs MUCH more than they did years ago.  I guess that is a good thing - xanax is an addictive drug and you just dont wnat to have to deal with that.  Four a week however seems to me to be a bit over the top to have to check but maybe he's been burnt before and is just now overly careful.

I agree with what Nygirl said. Besides, the doctor can be punished for indiscriminately prescribing addictive substances. He has to follow certain rules and double check these things. This is serious business.

I'm glad you're are controlling your xanax prescription.  Hep C Tx can make you depressed and cause anxiety issues.  During an interview for work, or even at work it could make you stressed out and anxious about everything.  The Dr was just doing his job, and I'm glad you got your anxiety meds.

Doctors do have to be careful, but it seems to me that a doctor that is used to treating hep c would know that 4 pills a week wasn't going to cause an addiction without putting ibamech through the third degree. That would be kind of embarrassing to me too.

Benzos are SUPPOSED to be used for no more than about 10 days. There's a good reason for that. They are highly addictive, and throw the central nervous system all out of whack. Unfortunately, most doctors ignore this, and hand them out like candy for years, even decades, at a time.

Sounds like your doc is one of the good guys. Wish mine had been ten years ago when he had me on them. Worst two years of my life was getting off these terrible CNS poisons.

It was this episode, in fact, that made me decide that NO MORE would I blindly follow a doctor's advice without knowing exactly what I was doing and why.

Good luck to ya, and be careful.
