elevated AST

I started Pegintrol / Ribavirin treatment in Septembe of 06 My ALT has always remained slightly elevated by 5 to 10 point out of range & my AST has always been normal. Just this month my ALT went from being 50 to 120 & my AST went from 35 to 70. I had a live biopsy about 5 years ago & they said I had no fibrosis just mild inflamation due to cronic HCV. Should I now be concerned? My Doc say's not to worry we will check agian. This is my second attempt to know out the HCV.

Thank you

Also AST is not as liver specific as AlT. Just quoting JMJM.
He's much more knowledgeable and maybe will post something tomorrow.

What was your last pcr re: viral load? Are you still treating? I have heard others say they have not had lowered liver enzymes during tx. Guess it's an individual thing.

I had a similar experience in that my ALT and AST were 54 and 47 respectively before treatment, down to 26 and 30 during the 15 months that I was on treatment (did not repsond) and spiked up to 185 and 121, three months after treatment. My other blood panel numbers were normal and my doc, who I pressed on this issue a couple of times, was not worried and expected this would settle back down.

I hope this helps.
