elevated Alt And Ast meaning and red palms in chronic liver desease

Hello,
This is a question requarding what elevation can show.  My understanding is that Alcoholic liver the AST is greater than the ALT and that GGTP is an indicator for alcohol.  With a viral infection ALT is greater or equeal to AST.  With one note in cirhosis the levels can be low and look like nothing.
If someone has Alcoholic liver does the deases stop when they stop drinking.
In gen.  YOu say people can live for years with a compensated liver in end stage is this true.
Also I have read that chronic liver problems can cause red palms .  Is this true and what is ment by red hands are they red with areas of white dots or pure red.

Tell me more about end stage cirrhosis.  Where did you learn that a person could live indefinitely?  This is one of my problems.
