elevated ggt

by demonfighter, Sep 08, 2008 07:28AM
Hi
I am 38 diagnosed with hcv in February 2008 after routine blood test showed elevated alt and ast
I did fibro test and came out f3 a3 so I started taking treatment pegintron + rebetol
I am on medications for 16 week now and found UND week 10
My question is:
I made blood test early 2001 and than everything was normal except slightly elevated GGT which was then 82 (normal range was 15-73)
My doctor was not concerned that and I was wondering if he would send me to hepatitis test then my fibrosis could be much milder than it is now and guess chances would be bigger.
Was elevated GGT sign of liver disorder ?
Thank you…..

It may have been. GGT is a sensitive marker of some things, but usually means fat or alcohol damge. Sometimes HCV causes fatty liver. Were you overweight back then? If so then the GGT may have been related to fat in your liver. Either way it does not matter now. You are doing the right thing and being treated. Keep up the good work!
