Current standard of care of a weekly injection in the stomach or leg of pegylated intereferon and daily ribavirin pills which is based on your weight.  Treatment duration depends on the what genotype you are.  Genotype 1 and 4 normally treat 48 wks.  Genotype 2 and 3 treat 24 wks.
If you have hepc you must see a specialist (GI or hepatologist) and have necessary blood work done to determine enzyme levels, genotype and viral load.  It is very advisable to have a liver biopsy done to determine what stage of liver damage you may have.
Results of the liver biopsy are usually the determing factor as to whether you can wait and treat later or if treatment should be initiated much sooner.
Good Luck
