enzyme levels dropping

hi all,  when i first started to treat, my baseline alt was 53 ast 26. after 3 weeks of treating my alt is 39 and ast 28. it dropped some. can anyone tell me does this mean my liver is not inflammed because the enzymes are in normal range now?     my dr. said its not that significant cuz its not like my scores dropped 100, but she did say its good cuz my live is not rejecting the meds.  i asked here what she meant by that and she said sometimes the liver gets inflammed cuz of the meds.  so im wandering now is my liver beginning to get a break cuz the enzymes are in normal range.  tks  opinions please

I agree with NYGirl;  the enzymes can still afford to be lower (although they are now within the normal range).. it does mean there is less inflammation in the liver and from what my nurse says, it gives an indication that your VL may be decreasing also.  That's a heartening 3 week outcome thus far!!!  I'm keeping my fingers crossed for your VL results;   My ALT/AST 128/79 - looking forward to some kind of fast drop also,  my liver needs a rest :-).   So far so good, I'm glad there was something positive to show in your bloods - thanks for your advice around the first shot; absolutely not a problem. Regards

The enzymes going down is a good thing - however it does NOT mean you can quit treatment or that your liver is now healed.  Fortunately the liver does have the ability to come back again but...not that quickly, if necessarily ever.

The good thing is that it means there is less damage being done. When a liver cell dies it releases an enyzme so the higher the number the more damage being done - 39 and 28 aren't really all THAT low but the enzyme levels do bounce around quite a bit due to medication or exercise or many many other things.

you're on the right path so make sure you stay on it!
