I take 20 mg of omeprazole a day, carafate 1 g 2xdaily, and Zantac 300 at bedtime. I have cirrhosis with hepatic gastropathy and my stomach is a mess. My transplant hepatologist said it was better than a bleed. Better check.

I've taken either omeprazole or propranolol for gas and prevention of variceal bleeding due to portal hypertension on and off for the last couple of years with no ill effects. I had not taken the omeprazole for awhile but when I started treatment with sovaldi and olysio I started taking it again because I was having a huge problem with gas and pressure. It helps me enormously. Some people say you should not take it with treatment drugs but I contacted both Sovaldi and Olysio and was told it is fine to take. Plus, my doctor also said it is okay.

I have cirrhosis. I take 20 mg twice a day as prescribed by my doctor.
Of course, ask your doctor if you are interested in taking it.

Hi rubatta

As far as your question is Omeprazole appropriate for a patient with cirrhosis, that would best be asked of a health care professional like your doctor. We are not doctors here. We are either patients with hepatitis c and /or cirrhosis or our loved ones who act as our caregivers.

You should discuss all your medications including non prescription with your doctor. If you have cirrhosis it is best that your doctor is a hepatologist associated with a liver transplant center. These experts can best answer you questions and guide your care.

Good Luck

Do you mean Omeprazole? It's used by those who have varices (cirrhosis)..Primarily for nausea.
Dosage seems high.
This medicine can cause unusual results with certain medical tests, and you may need to stop using the medicine for a short time before a test.
