Be careful with the antihistimine drops...use them sparingly because your eyes will build up a tolerance to them and it will lose the helpful effect and you will need to use more, more, more.  (you can google that...it's a rebound effect).  My ophthalmologist told me to use the over the counter eye drops (without any medication in them, such as Refresh Tears -- there are many other brands too -- just make sure it's not the medicated stuff) and at night use the ointments for severe dry eyes (again Refresh Tears has an ointment for that).  Before I went to bed each night, I would put the ointment in my eyes...felt like vaseline and the vision would be blurry for a while so don't put it in when you have to be up and around.  The ointment will keep the eyes moist during the night.  I also kept eye drops at my bedside so I could put them in at night when I got up to go to the bathroom.  Keep your eyes moist because treatment dries them out.  I would take a tiny bit of the ointment and rub it around the skin around my eyes at night too.  All of this helped to keep the crusting and puffiness down.

As far as the area around your eyes, I had red puffy eyes during treatment (looked like someone punched me in both eyes) and I used Zyrtec (oral antihistimine) during the day and benadryl at night.  I also washed my eye area with Steri-lid - when I could find it at stores - it's kind of expensive.  I have also heard that baby shampoo is a good thing to use around the eyes - sparingly, of course. Try to limit touching your skin around your eyes or putting a lot of different products on the skin because most of them will make it worse.  Less is better but keep the area moist with the eye ointment.

Just keep at it...it's one of those things that takes a lot of time and patience...it will get better.

I'm glad you found something that works.  Sorry that your still dealing with the crusty eyelids.  Vaseline or Olive Oil work great and are safe to use around the eye.

I'm gonna buy some of those antihistimine drops too.  Thanks for sharing the info!

Did you read the post about the A&D ointment? My eyes get a lil crusty n watery. Created redness on skin around them. The ointment works good. I've cleared up. I also use a wetting solution for contact lens wearers.  Good luck. The sunglasses sound like a good deal. Karen :)
