"vomit that looks like coffee grounds" .....

is a clasic symptom of gastrointestinal bleeding. The "coffee grounds appearance"  is old blood in the stomach. Most people think of stomach bleeding as bright red, which it is if it is fresh. But old blood looks like coffee grounds in vomit. Old blood that goes through the intestinal tract (for example a bleeding stomach ulcer where the blood does not get vomited, but instead passes through the intestine) is dark maroon or blackish tarry in appearance.

So yes, it is definityely a bad sign and one not to be ignored. Most people, however, may not think too much about it since it is not bright red.

i had almost complete lose of vision for about 45 minutes one time during tx...it would have freaked me out more but a few years ago i was on this forum and saw this happen to others on tx...many times during tx my eyes took time to adjust..i also went from 150 readers to 300 and now back to 150 a few months post tx...i knew something was very wrong when i got sharp pains in the back of my eyes...these lasted for maybe 15 seconds real bad and after a few minutes went away...they made me fold over holding my hands to my eyes...that was blood vessels breaking in the back of my eyes...be careful...your most likely going to be fine...i would get to the doctor to see if you may have a problem with interferon....good luck...billy

Cotton-wool spots were found in 31 patients and retinal hemorrhage in nine patients during treatment (24% of patients). These lesions remained asymptomatic and disappeared in all patients. A previous history of arterial hypertension (RR 4.60, 95% CI 1.95-10.85), age above 45 years (RR 2.80, 95% CI 1.36-5.85), and use of pegylated alpha-interferon (RR 2.75, 95% CI 1.41-5.38) were significantly associated with retinopathy. Neurovisual impairment was present in 31 patients (20%) before treatment and in 74 patients (47%) during treatment.

In studies including a significant number of diabetic patients [5,7] diabetes mellitus has also been associated with retinopathy. Furthermore, improvement of retinopathy is delayed in hypertensive and diabetic patients after ending treatment [7]. This relationship emphasizes that IFN-induced retinopathy can result from physiopathological mechanisms in common with other retinopathies related to microvascular abnormalities.

Conclusions: In conclusion, this study showed that signs of retinopathy and neurovisual impairment were common in patients receiving alpha-interferon therapy but were rarely symptomatic. It suggests that alpha-interferon may usually be continued in asymptomatic patients as long as there is careful fundoscopic examination.

You need to be seen by an opthamologist on an emergency basis. You should be see today. Your own opthamologist should be able to get you on an emergency basis today.

If you cannot get an appointment with your own opthamologist I suggest going to the emergency room and tell them which meds you are on. You need to have your eyes thoroughly examined, including the retina.

The drugs can cause major eye problems including cotton wool spots, retinal tears, retinal detachment, or loss of sight.
