I usually take aciphex too, but ran out and have some left over prevacid.
Thanks for all your help. I think you might be .net not .com as you previously posted-ya know?
I'm excited to be getting this over with.
BUg
Sorry, you are correct. I am dot net, not dot com. Oh well, I'll blame it on the brian fog. Send me a note and I'll let you know how to reach me.
I never knew that. I take prilosec about an hour before the morning riba. Probably not helping me!
An hour should be okay. I sometimes have to take stuff several times a day. I try and keep the antacids as far away from the Riba as possible. Tums, maalox are not good with Riba. The PPI's are better.
I hope so, so much to think about and watch for with this tx.
When we are all done, we will be so smart.
Take the advil......or tylenol.......
They could wipe out the fever chills part of the side effects if you act in advance and they are no fun. Plus they help with the body aches and all of that.
I took them before I knew what was going to happen to me - once I figured I was ok and wasn't having those problems I stopped.
Two tylenols won't hurt your liver - it's when people take a LOT of them.
All of the doctors seem to ok a few once in a while (like on treatment night).
Good luck - it's scary but most likely nothing will happen and you'll be like oh that was it????? :)
I have to take Aciphex, a PPI, for my acid reflux. It can get bad on tx. It looks like Prevacid is a PPI too. It should be okay to take, but check with your Hep dr. Take the prevacid a few hours or before your Riba. Good luck with that shot! I don't take anything with my shot, as it hits me a day or three afterwards, but you won't be able to tell until you start. Even then, it can change.
Good luck today Orphaned Hawk. I will start tomorrow. My doctor's nurse said alleve, but I have such horrible gerd lately I think I'm going to try tylenol. I'm so glad you got you meds and hope this helps your wire road!
Linda: I think zantec is the antacid and zanax is the one for nerves. Now I wonder if I can take prevacid.
Anise: Can't beleive you finally saw that old post. I posted again underneath it that I realized you had already gone through tx but thanks for responding. I hope everything continues to go undetactable (sp?)for you.
I start tomorrow and I am so excited! I can hardly wait! Just kidding. I hope to enjoy a quiet evening with my pillow and blanket!
Everyone has their routine. Mine is to Take my Riba when I get home. About an hour later I take my shot. About 4 hours later I take 1 extra Tylenol and 1 Tylenol PM. I sleep through it all. The first time I only took one ex Tylenol and I woke up with the shivers and feeling really lousy. I learned. Just sleep throgh it. The first one was far the worst.
im on shot 5 1a, 2-2 my dr said 2 extra strength tylenol and a benadryl...one hour prior.....and i have no problems with the shot at all..
Good luck on you first shot...congrates
I do take Tylenol, but it never worked that well for me. Because my platelets are low, and Tylenol doesn't work well for me, my doc recommends Advil. He said to stay away from Aleve because of my platelet count.
I don't have cirrosis tho, so your doc might be a different recommendation for you.
Sometimes, you may have to call a chaotic office (like your doctor's office) and INSIST that you need an answer. You deserve to know what you need to do before you begin tx and if you have to get a little "persuasive" with the receptionist, then do so. Tell her that your message to him is probably sitting in a pile on his desk and she needs to HAND GIVE it to him because you NEED TO KNOW. I hate it when we can't get past the receptionist!
Somebody here once suggested going to their waiting room and sitting there in your pajamas. That should get their attention. LOL
Best of luck to you tomorrow! We'll take our shot at the same time!!
((Huge Hugs))

Thats good to know, my hubby starting soon and he has low platlets. I will check with the doc about aleve or tylenol
for him.
Orphanedhawk - good luck on your journey. I couldn't give myself a shot at first. I was terrified of the needle. My NP walked me through it. It took me a month before I was able to inject interferon.
I never had any problems with feeling 'fluey' or anything with the shots. The only thing I took was Lorazapam to help with my 'needle phobia'. Once I learned how to stick myself, I was surprised that it didn't hurt at all. I became a pro real fast.
Ladybug, I was going down the threads and realized you had posted asking if I am done with treatment. I finished up July 27, 2006. So, I am coming up to my 6 months post treatment. I was undetected all through treatment, so far. As Beamer said, I have fingers, toes, knees crossed and helped myself to all sorts of divinations :)
So how is the treatment going for you so far?
I have been told to take aleve before the shot and the next morning. If I need anything else during the week I can take 4 extra trenth tylenol within a 24 hour period.
Even though I started a little platelet challenged, I alternate with tylenol and aspirin - but try to keep both at a mimimum. Also, early cirrhosis. Thing is, that with cirrhosis you need to make it thru tx with whatever gets you there. Not sure about space's 6-pack idea though. Sounds good, but I'd be afraid of a cut from the sharp edge of the can and bleed out.
Zanax is the antacid and xanax is the anxiety drug, right? If you take the antacid, be sure you wait several hours before or after the Riba. It effects the absorbtion levels of the Riba. As for xanax, it does nothing to me. I could eat 4 and wouldn't know i took it. Some here use it, if it helps relax you and you are freaked, by all means take some if your dr says it's okay. I'll be thinking about you tomorrow! Let us know.
Lindy, I am genotyope 2. Everyone else, thank you for the various tips. My platelets are on the low side.
My medicine chest is stocked.

I do my injections on Thursday nights as well. Weird as it is, I look forward to each shot cause it brings me closer to the end. I am genotype 3. I did not have a bx but my doctor is confident that I don't have any liver damage since all of my lab results have been in the normal range. He said something somewhere would have jumped out of range. I know there are those who disagree with that assumption. He gave me the option of getting a bx but I didn't want to hold up starting tx.
I'll be thinking of you on Thursday night!
What is your genotype?
Linda
My dr always said ibuprofen but who knows,,,as long as you don't go over the amount of either, you should be fine. I only took for sides when I really needed.
Linda,,,I hear you on getting so worked up over that first shot! I was at the drs office and they could not believe how high my blood pressure was before that injection. lol My first shot night was the worse for me and after that it was pretty much smooth sailing with a few bumps here and there!
Good Luck to both of you on beginning your tx!
Thanks. Fed-ex was just here and the shots are in the fridge. I'm going into town to buy some Tylenol. I'd do it today but I have a doctor's appt. on a Thursday and thought it'd be better to make late Thursday my shot day, rather than try to change my appt. For me, not being able to act spontaneously is hard. I don't like being confined to scheduling but I gotta get past Hep C. What is your genotype. Good luck to both of us
I just started treatment. Have done two injections so far. The first one I took Tylenol about an hour before injection. I did the injection about 8:30 pm but didn't have a reaction until 4 am (flu like symptoms). I got up, took some more Tylenol and it passed in about 3 hours. 2nd injection I took the Tylenol later and didn't have any reaction. Everyone is different so you may just have to adjust as you go along and see how the injections effect you. Also my doc said no more than 3000 grams of regular strength Tylenol a day which is about 9 325mg tablets. I, on the other hand, take both extra strength and regular depending on how I am feeling. I just keep up with it so I don't exceed the maximum.
Good luck to you. It will be fine. The day of my first injection I was so nervous that I made myself sick prior to the injection. When I actually did it, I was so surprised how easy it was and then I just kept waiting around for something to happen. Hope yours goes as well.
Take care.
Linda
Thanks. My doctor does always call me back but he's so damn busy and his office is chaotic. I've got cirrhosis with a variety of icky things happening so I know to go easy on the liver.
My doctor allowed me 6 extra strenth per day and said it would not damage my liver. You just have to watch other meds that use the same ingredients to make sure you don't exceed whatever your doctor has told you. My doctor had told me to stay away from Advil. Not sure why. Good luck to you on your journey my friend. Dale
