yes, i am told i am at stage 4 cirrhosis....way beyond treatment...now just the quality of life...I did try the interferon and riv treatment 2001 and the side effects were so bad that...i had to make the decision to die now or later, so i quit taking the medication. been watching it closely with my gastro and all levels are good...i could go on this way for a while
have you been told you have cirrhosis? are you seeing a good Hepatologist (liver specialist)? I agree with the other poster you have to treat the hepatitis C.
Cutting salt out of your diet will help. Its not easy and you won't be able to do it 100% but be sure and read the ingredients on every thing you ingest.
Going low sodium will help reduce the swelling.
Has the possibility of getting rid of the virus ever been mentioned to you? Have they done a biopsy to see how much damage you have?

Yes, I have hep c 1a, contracted it @ 22 years ago, though i was only diagnosed 13 years ago and had my first symptom 3 years ago. Life as I once knew it is over, and a new one starts. I am now taking 200mg spirolatone and lactose. after many different combinations of different medications...we have come to this....but now i only go for my pero/unltrasound to relieve the fluid gain every few months, instead of once a week...
yes, edema (fluid retention) can happen throughout the body but is most common in the legs & ankles.
Do you have Hepatitis? Are you taking anything for the fluid build up? There are meds that can help control this. Do not let this go, make sure to see a doctor and find out what is going on!
Make sure you eat a low salt diet.
Best of luck
