frequent fever with chills, high billirubin, high sgot

by manlop, Sep 24, 2006 12:00AM
My father aged 70, gets frequent fever around 101-102 degree cel, the blod reports showed high bilirubin and high sgpt & sgpt levels. The Us scan showed nothing abnormal except a liver cyst.
My father had jaundice when he was 15 years old.
In 1996 he had a similair disorder with vomiting ,and high billirubin level.
An endoscopy showed the cyst and a biopsy said it was benign.

Is there any thing we need to do further , the doctor says that this could be just a viral fever, & there's nothing to worry.

I'm sorry - this is a patient to patient forum and there are no doctors here.  Most of us here have Hepatitis C.  It sounds like you need to have more tests run.  Since the doctor says it is a viral infection, has he tested for the hepatitis virons?

I find it odd the docs didn't test further
with high ALT/AST and Bilirubin.  I had the
same thing happen.  Jaundice in high school
and 30+ years later......HCV.
Can you suggest HCV, HBV, HAV tests to his
doctor?  Sometimes MD's feel the person is
old and they won't do anything about it
anyway.  I say, push them.  There are alternative
medicine sites that are quite good.  He can
always go the natural way if he is so inclined.
It's tough getting people to do natural
protocols as they are time consuming and
costly.  Good luck with you dad!

sherry, ask the doc what is the reason the liver is bad. livers do not just go bad, especially on a 23 yr old. there has to be a reason why the liver is failing?
