180,000 is not 0, it IS low, anything under 800,000 - 200,000, depending on who you're listening to,(my hepatologist used 400,00 as the low VL cut off) is low enough to cut your tx time from 48 weeks down to 24 weeks, IF you are UND by week 4, in Europe. This country is also headed towards that protocol. The data is consistant, RVR, with a low VL, and a 0-2 bx bodes well indeed, even with only 24 weeks of tx. google it. jerry
OMG...good for you...keep that up, and by the time you need to treat there';; be a painless way....chorkle..
all I did during tx is sing the old Dylan "fixin' to die" song...and invent new versions of it.
no, it's not gut wrenching chemo, but I would have traded 3 months of upchuck for the 2 years of chemo hell anyday. Not sure antiviral quite covers it...
I'd say, sane cell interruptus would be a better working title.

i was stage 1 to 2 and grade 2 almost three years ago..have been planning on another biopsy soon..and tx when the vx950 is aproved..4 years ago i quit drinking..also changed my diet..i had a very tough time for the next 2 years..tried the milk thistle thing and that didn't seem to help..cut out almost all my red meat..i've been eating loads of veggies..lots of broccoli..rice milk with my cearal..apple sauce with cinnamon..honey granola bars...tuna fish for lunch..beans and nuts...i was very weak for a couple years..now that i can do more heart rate exercise again i'm doing better..my strenght is coming back..when the doc feels my liver they say it feels normal..i do wonder if my stage is less then before i'm quit sure my grade is lower then it was....billy
Hey Working Dog, have you done any Vegetable/Fruit juicing?, OR is that just from eating well without the alchohol? If so, what have you been eating man! :)
Congratulations for quitting drinking, that is a very difficult feat in itself, nevermind also changing the way you eat.
180 000 is neither low nor zero nor relevent
18,000 is quite low but it's hardly zero. sometimes (unfortunately) when people have a very low VL because their immune system has been trying to beat it down on it's own - the meds have less effect at kick starting the process. It has happened to several people in here. Make sure you dont get confused and think that you need to take it easy on the meds - take the full aggressive dose and try to wipe it all out as quickly as you can.
We all know VL goes up and down and up and down and really can be irrelevant regardless to what most people assume because each body reacts differently.
Do NOT get complacement.
Hey Dog, That was also my strategy, get in the best shape I could (including a rigorous exercise regimen) befofe starting tx. VL IS important, mostly when it comes to RVR. Congrats on your success. jerry
"18000 is like saying zero." Wow, new math! Why do you suppose Heptimax PCR is sensitive to <5 if a VL of 18000 is like saying zero?
LOL is that like saying you can put lipstick on a pig? ;)
Antiviral therapy would be the most appropriate lingo although we have used chemotherapy to drive the point home that it's tough but immunotherapy is one I have never seen used before in conjunction with HCV tx. I guess technically we could call it buggertherapy if we wanted to!
I tend to agree with you - "antiviral therapy" is a more appropriate term.
Here, most of the time it's referred to as tx, TX, HCV treatment or just treatment.
You can dress it up all you like but it's still TX.
Mike
I believe the correct terminology for hepatitis c treatment is antiviral therapy.
I suppose some people liken it to immunotherapy but that term is most often used when someone is treating for cancer.
"immunotherapy"? Now, that's the first time I have ever seen Peg/Riba treatment characterized that way. Golly, this place is really educational. And "immunotherapy" just sounds a lot more sophisticated and maybe even more advanced.
Yes Old Chap, I do intend on embarking on a course of immunotherapy. It should be jolly good fun getting rid of those pesky buggers.
Mike
Low VL is relevant. 18000 is like saying zero. Dog, just for my own curiosity, have you had a biopsy before and to you have intentions to go on the immunotherapy (peg/riba) treatment?
Its good that your glucose and liver enzymes are down. Having read this forum for some time you of course realize that your viral load is irrelevant at this point, beyond the fact that you have one.
Good luck with your tx.
Working Dog,
That's just wonderful, congratulations. I certainly hope that it will help you to avoid some of the issues of treatment and it's problematic issues afterwards. I was so healthy before I started treatment and still had the worse sides possible. Remember - it's a long long road and you just have to keep on doing what you are doing now the whole time. Don't get lazy like some of us do when the hypoxia hits! Keep exercising and as vigilant as you can be about your diet (unfortunately I was pretty much only able to eat ice cream and yogurt which has not helped my cholesterol) - it just might save you in the long run!
Good luck Billy!
hey Billy, Great news on the bloodwork. Are you going to TX soon. I left you some messages about your great looking dogs, hope you got them. Good Luck
Denise
I'm glad to hear that your hard work paid off! You are living proof that a healthy diet and lifestyle can improve the health of your liver and your health in general.
