hair loss

I am 6 months into my treatment and my hair is thinning a lot. Does all the hair treatments like Nioxin really work? It seems to me that since I have been using all of the  thinning hair products I have been losing more hair. I think this is the worst part of the treatment. I can put up with the sleepyness and minor aches. I'm a very private person and  I dont want anyone to know about my hep c. I just dont know what to say to people if any more of my hair falls out. And to top it off my doc wants to get more aggressive and change my meds to a shot everyday. Help!!

Forgot to mention, I have tried the Nioxin and yes I do think it helped with encouraging new hair growth and it definitely gave the appearance of fuller hair but I find it irritating to my sensitive scalp as it has a lot of menthol in it and is not very moisturising.  Also, it didn't stop any hair falling out...

I will probably go back to it when off the meds to encourage new hair to come through but for now I am sticking with hypoallergenic shampoos.  If we lived in the same country I would offer you all my hair products to try, I have so many now that I am thinking of starting a shop!!

Wig out?!  That was good considering we're talking about hair loss!!

Rose, I just want to back up what everyone else has said.  Hair loss and change of hair texture has been a pretty constant sx for me and very frustrating.  I do know it will come back so in the meantime it's about finding ways to work with your 'new look' hair.  When desperate I wear scarves and bandannas - people just think I'm being stylish rather than trying to cover my hair loss.

May I suggest that you don't do what I did yesterday and find photos of your gorgeous hair before tx and compare it to now.  That put me in a blue funk for the day!

Hi Rose

Don't wig out over this. It happens to many of us.I lost at least half during all my treatments. I also lost the curls and my hair became straight. But no to worry, not only did mine all grow back, but I seemed to have even thicker hair after treatment... and... all my curls came back...

Hi Rose.  Seems that hair loss is just a part of treatment that most of us have to go through.  Here's a link to some posts about hair loss that is fairly recent.  You might find some helpful information here.  Hair loss varies from person to person.  I wish you the best.
