I was much like Id and Cean, I lost about 80% of my hair. It took 3 months after finishing tx for the hair loss to stop. My hair was every where, my son would go to work with gobs of my hair on his dress shirt and slacks. The tub was always clogged. I don't think there is much that can be done about hair loss from the tx. Each person is different and each person will lose a different amount or even none at all.
I was obsessed about it, to the point I am sure I drove everyone here crazy. I kept looking for a magic pill, :) I started using Nioxin and another product to help my scalp as it was very tight and sore. I used Biotin and hair skin nails vitamins as well as applied African Oil on my scalp when it was very dry, it really helped me.
I am now a year post tx and my hair is growing back in better than it was before. I have a good 3 to 5 inches of hair. It is all different lengths and I have what I think is called "chemo curls". Before tx I had straight very fine hair. Now my hair is curly and wavy. It looks odd but at least all the bare spots are filling in. I am very grateful for that :)
Good luck

I had profound hair loss - about 80%. I finished tx halfway through Sept 2012 and kept on losing hair until it finally started growing back in beginning in December. I stopped noticing the thin and bald spots in February, and now it is about as thick as before (which was never really thick anyway). One cool thing: I'm 59 and since I was about 54 it had been turning less blonde and more of a darker steel grey, but now what has grown back in seems much more blonde again! I'm happy about that, and I'm REALLY happy that I achieved SVR.
Btw, I was told minoxidil would not help during tx, but might help the hair regrow a little faster after the drugs were out of the system. I wouldn't have dared to try it while I still had such touchy and rash-prone skin, and by the time that all cleared up the hair was not really a problem anymore. I did start biotin about halfway through tx, and have continued to take it, as many report that it helps grow stronger hair and nails. It's very safe and does seem to help to some degree, so why not? My other favorite suggestion for dealing with the hair loss is hats. But your man some really good-looking hats! It's a great way to hide the hair loss and look good at the same time. It's also a good idea for protecting the scalp from UV while the hair is too thin to do the job. Best wishes!
Hey Jules I to am losing a lot of hair this past month more than normal. But from what I hear it comes back. So don't worry to much over it. Any ideas for nightly headaches? Been getting them for the past 2 wks. but we're almost there 21 days left.
Much love Marissa
I am three months post; didn't lose much hair but all the body; was very wavy and is starting to get some body back.
If I'm not mistaken minoxidil is known here in the states as Rogaine. Maybe it's available in the UK.
Hi all you lovely guys thanx for taking time out to reply i will have to look minoxidel up because i have never heard of it and not sure if it is avaiable in England, is it known by another name? I will ask at the chemist when i pick his script up. To be honest it is probably me you is the most upset about it, he is nearly 62 and a ponytail longer then mine i have always known him with long hair his nick name is the silver fox it is normally baby fine in a big curl (so jealous!) anyway thanxs again and for all of you still doing tx good luck and stay strong and for those that have finished i wish you all a speedy recovery. Thanx again love Jules x
Coincidently I just got back from the dermatologist regarding my hair loss. I've lost a good 60% of my hair and its still coming out. I've cut it pretty short, which actually I kind of like. Any way, the derm said really the only thing to do is wait it out. It will stop falling out and slowly start growing again. I can't wait. To be truthful, after the nasty sx of incivek this has been the thing that has bothered me the most. Can you say vanity?! I hope your husband's hair stops falling out soon. At least he's a guy. Just keep repeating BALD IS BEAUTIFUL........yike!
PS he also said biotin and B12 might help.
It will come back. My hair thinned in 1998 on tx and that was only 6 months. I am wondering what 11 months will look like. Scarf, hat or wig... It is only temporary
Reid, ha, haThat's called freudenshade
My hair thinned out about 20% during treatment. It started to grow back at about 3 weeks. I hadn't thought about using Minoxidil and would consider doing so, but I want to stay away from chemicals for a few months. It sounds ridiculous, but when I was seeing my hair thinning on treatment, I'd notice how much hair guys on TV had and would compare mine to theirs. I'd feel sad when seeing guys with a full head of hair and happy when I'd see George Castanza on Seinfeld.
After 48 weeks of peg/riba, in 2000, my hair thinned considerably as it is now after 23 weeks on triple treatment. It took about a year for everything to get back to normal after that. I'm that much older this time but I have high hopes that it will all come back again:)
I am so jealous that your husband is finishing. Good luck to him and you. I'm convinced my wife will have more effect on me finishing than I will. I thank God for her every day.

It really varies. I know that I had a profound hair loss (as did Ceanothus) during treatment however loss to this degree is atypical. From what I have seen most people have shedding & thinning of hair and maybe a receding hair loss. Still, some people are OK during treatment and start to lose hair after treatment.
I am about 17 weeks post treatment and my hair is only about two inches tall but it is growing back like crazy and it is very thick. (I started using Kirkland Minoxidil ). Others may have seen results much sooner. I have not seen many posts where the person's hair totally never grew back if that is any consolation :)
I am not sure there is all that much you can do to stop or slow down medication-induced hair loss what with heavy duty drugs like Interferon.
