I took Harvoni for 24 weeks and after treatment started my doctor added ribavirin for 15 of those 24 weeks.

The reasomn for th eribavirin and overall treatment length was due to the fact I was a 3 time null responder to interferon based treatment, relapsed after taking sovaldi and olysio for 12 weeks, and have had cirrhosis for almost 8 years.

When taking just the harvoni I had little to no side effects maybe a couple of mild headaches but that's about it. With the addition of rivavirin I quickly became somewhat anemic and so my dose of ribavirin was reduced so I could maintain a reasonable hemoglobin count for the remainder of my treatment.

But other than felling a little crummy from the anemia my treatment was relatively easy.

When tested in July 12 weeks after completing treatment I am still free of the virus meaning after having hep c for 37 years I am cured.

Good luck
Lynn

I also did it for 12 weeks and reached SVR12. I had headaches at first, but then cut down on carbs especially sugar and they decreased significantly. I also had weird sleep patterns. I wouldn't call it insomnia, but I slept when I could, sometimes at lunchtime I would close my office door and take a snooze and it helped a lot. This was my fifth treatment and it was absolutely a cakewalk compared to the previous treatments.

Hi, I'm going on week 4 and had a few disconcerting moments in the beginning.
Week one was rough on me with lots of gas and a few days of bathroom emergencies. I'd like to note that this was an inconvenience more than say having a stomach virus. Specialty pharmacist told me this is not uncommon but of course we are all different and many do not experience this adjustment to the medicine. Headaches in my case were minimal but could pop up if I tried  lifting something heavy or became agitated (like in traffic jams). So I decided not to do those things and then no more pop up headaches. Drinking plenty of water pretty much quelled the mild headaches entirely. On the plus side, on Week 2, Aches and pains that were becoming constant before treatment got 80% better. It felt like a miracle. (I take my meds early in the morning and sleep has been better than usual.) Week 3 I caught a flu bug and was told (late) to be extra careful washing my hands etc. as the Harvoni can depress the immune system a bit. So no drinking water from the fountain in the movie theatre like i did. I'm on week 4 now and finally feeling better from that bug and getting my energy back. My insurance company wanted my bloodwork on day 21 for some reason and AST/ALT were normal already and HCV Q is <15 . This stuff is working for sure. So if you get approved go ahead and ask the Dr. to start as soon as you can. I must admit, I was kind of nervous about timing and my schedule, but it seems it just gets easier as time goes on. Good luck with your TX and achieving SVR. Its been a long road for many of us. Good fortune and grace to us all.

I am on week 12 of 24 and this has been a cake walk compared to previous treatment.  The first week I was a little nauseous but that stopped.  Now I have insomnia but I can deal with that.  So really minimal side effects.

Good luck with your treatment.

Many people on here have taken it, or are in the process of taking it now.  I did not, personally.  I believe ther have been little to no side effects for most you have taken it.  some mentioned head aches, usually in the first week or two, and some sleep disturbance, if they took it in the evening, I believe.

Treatment seems to be very effective.  I have only seen one or two who have reported relapse.  Only one had taken it 12 weeks, the other(s) only 8 weeks.  The recommended course of tx (treatment) is 12 weeks or, in certain circumstances, 24 weeks.

Good luck on getting more specific answers, and on treatment.  So far, this is the best, and least side effects Hep C med which has come out/is available.
