help with low wbc

by cshel, Jul 01, 2003 12:00AM
my husband has hepC He's on 10th tx. geno type 1a viral load 2million weighed 240 down to 200. minimal fibrosis. he's working long hours high stress; we have med ins but no pay if he's off work.  wbc has been down to 1 & taking nupregeon (sp) (4 weeks so far) 2x a week. not helping. we are seeing a cookie cutter dr started him right off the bat at 150 mcg Peg-Intron wk & 600 mgs of ribavarin a day. (wish I'd seen Dr Cecil's plan 10 weeks ago)

My question is what will happen if the wbc doesn't go back up. Is he at risk of getting really sick. his dr is wishy washy at best on what to do next.  Also he takes blood pressure meds. He is so sick of tx he is talking about quitting and taking his chances...  help, what advice do you guys have for him.  Side effects have been pretty bad, but if he could get off the nupregeon maybe he'd feel better.  Thanks for any advice/input you might have.
