I was so scared I put it off. I dont even remember it. They gave me some sort of drug in the IV. I woke up feeling fine, and starved as they dont let you eat after midnight. My friends scared me and said it feels like getting stabbed in the gut. My doc did'nt help (they numb you is all he said, so I knew numb or not I was'nt gonna let someone stick a needle into me) I got to see a little of my ultra sound, and then I dont remember a thing...So dont worry. I dont know how they did biopsys 20 yrs ago. But I know how they did it 2 months ago. No Pain, No Memory...yeaa...Just get er done. Good luck
I had no pain during the biopsy and very little discomfort after. Worth getting the information I needed.
Most people say their biopsy wasn't painful. Mine wasn't during the procedure either. Afterwards it felt like I had been punched in my stomach for about 24 hours. No matter what it was like though... the procedure told me the condition of my liver so that I could make an informed decision about tx.

My Biopsy WAS VERY Painful!
If you have been positive for over 20 years - get the biopsy. It's not as painful as it sounds (although nobody believes it until they experience it for themselves) and then you will know if you have a vast amount of liver damage or not and can decide about treatment accordingly.
Just because you have no real symptoms doens't mean the liver is being harmed - the virus will do that all on it's own even if you live the most healthy life possible. But you can't ignore it and wait until you have end stage liver disease symptoms then it would be too late to do anything proactive to prevent it.
You dont want that to happen.
